This pub has been going down hill rapidly for the last 18 months. Food is way too expensive for what you get as is the beer & wine, especially as the service is so appallingly slow. Staff seems more interested in socialising with their mates than attending to customers. We went early on a midweek evening and had to ask to move table as we could barely hear our own conversation over the load mouth yob sitting at the bar squawking into his mobile phone. Great shame.

Went here today and had a lovely meal, service was good and food was lovely, only downfall was they offer "hot rocks" (where they bring the meat on a granite stone for you to cook) personally I do not want to go out to eat to cook my own food). The hot rocks also limited my selection as most meat dishes were offered only this way. They also only have a small selection of sandwiches.

We booked a table as it was our Anniversary and wanted to go somewhere different to the usual places we go. We arrived about 15mins early and ordered drinks, we said to the bar staff we had a table booked, they didn't ask the name and just led us through to a table, I was dissapointed as the web site said about an open fire but there wasn't one and I had to keep my coat on as was cold in there and we were next to the fan in the wall although not on the vent were open so very drafty! We ordered our starters and main both of which we couldn't fault! The food was lovely, the plates were then cleared and we were left for nearly half an hour without anyone asking if we would like dessert! By this point I was beyond having one, so we got our coats and walked to the bar-Expecting the staff to maybe say ''oh sorry was everything ok with your meal?'' or something! Nothing!! Not a single word! Very odd so needless to say we didn't leave a tip like we would normally always do! We will NOT be going back here, a real shame as the chef's food was lovley!

This cannot be the same pub we went to today! The food was poor - Sunday lunch consisted of reheated vegetables in the microwave... not good! You could see the piles of plates with clingfilm over them ready to be popped in.
We only went because we are fed up with having sub standard food at pubs and the reviews seemed great... maybe something has changed? But do not go there for the food!

Went for Sunday lunch with the family. Great pint of Harvey's crystal clear! The food was really good, I mean really good and all the staff were friendly. Will definately be back.

I've been here 4-5 times now and it's really nicely decorated, real log fires, etc. Great place for a drink. The food is very good BUT the service is consistently inconsistent. The staff never seem to be quite sure whether they're supposed to be doing table or bar service where diners are concerned or whether they should run a table bill or get you to pay at the bar. Today went for lunch just after 12 when it opened, about 10 people in, mainly at the bar. Ordered coffee & tea when menus arrived while we decided. 15 min later, had to chase drinks at the bar and then order food as the waitress hadn't come back.B oth meals arrived together quite quickly but minus my partner's side dish which we'd paid for but they'd 'lost'. Side dish arrived about 5 min after we'd both finished our meal. Tip - make sure you get served by the tall scottish bloke, he's the only one who seems to know what he's doing.

Along with other members of my family, I took my mother to The Swan today for her birthday. The decor is lovely, the beer/wine was good and the restaurant is very well presented. The service and staff are a different matter.
We sat down at our table of our own accord and found that it hadn't been laid up or cleaned since the previous diners had left. The young barman in the blue shirt got out starter orders wrong, so we had a long wait between the fourth person in our group getting their starter and the sixth getting theirs. The starters were very good once we got them, especially the ribs, although two of our group didn't get the much needed finger bowls they'd been promised.
We'd seen the table next to us get their main courses at different times so two of the eight were starting as the other six had finished. Things didn't look good for us. We got the mains pretty much at the same time and the paella was very good. Unfortately we still hadn't got the two bottles of wine or the jug of water we'd asked for upon ordering so my mother had to go up and ask again. Because so much time had passed, she now just wanted the one bottle of wine. The stressed out waitress came to ask who messed up our order and then seemed intent on bollocking the young guy in the blue shirt once leaving our table.
The puddings were good when the helpful new tall waiter brought us our spoons, and we tucked in. The service had got so bad at this point that we laughed about it.
We went to pay the bill and saw that two bottles of wine were on the bill instead of one, so the young barman had a petty dig back and the waitress before asking each other what they were having for lunch.
Summary: Good food, lovely building inside and out, bloody awful service. The service should be top notch for the expensive prices that they charge. We won't go back.
