Coach and Four, Wilmslowback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
This is a bit of a strange one. At the main entrance it’s clearly a pub, but the further you venture inside, the more it seamlessly merges into the Wilmslow Lodge hotel ! There may also be a restaurant in there somewhere as well, because the pub is laid out with sections for dining (fully laid tables), non-dining (high stools, with shelves for placing drinks), and “intermediate”, (normal tables with condiments, but no other dining accoutrements).
Luckily the bar is straight in front of the main entrance, so there’s no problem getting a beer. There are 6 or 7 handpumps, but almost all of them selling Hydes in one form or another. I had the Beer Studio Old Indie (mild), which was quite nice – and cheaper than I expected (£2.70 a pint).
The place is quite extensive, but feels smaller, as the ceilings are low and it is partitioned off into several discrete areas. I chose an “intermediate” tables, and noticed that the Table Number took the form of a small bottle filled with pebbles – I thought it was some kind of sauce until I looked ! The one think I didn’t notice was a menu.
One final warning – there is low level muzak playing which some may find off-putting.

Having heard from a friend about the daytime carvery I thought I'd try as my work lunch break is only an hour which I did and I found the interior was pleasent, staff were smartly dressed I didn't have too wait too long to be served either and after picking what I wanted from the carvery "beef stroganoff" I sat down next to the fire listening to the sound of jamie cullum coming of the speakers really enjoying the atmosphere, needless to say the food was excellent & I now spend every lunch break there I recomend to anyone.

I like the Coach and Four as a pub. However, although the lunchtime carvery was perfectly edible, it was disappointing and reminiscent of school meals. Could do better.

Food shyte, beers too cold, staff good, accomodation great

Well run large Hydes house, with, I thought, particularly good beer (Original). Very busy on a Thursday, which might relect football on TV as the decent looking curry deals weren't doing great business.

Fair sized town centre pub serving grub. Usually pretty busy, and was done up a few years ago, probably due another do up now. Beer is ok (Hydes I think). Next door to Sainsbury's, so good for taking your mind off the shopping.

I am a local and have been for about ten years, i went for a meal on Saturday night (18:00)at the coach and four and it was the worst meal i have every eaten. I ordered the steak and asked for it rare, it came burnt to a crisp so i sent it back. The chief then sent me a RAW steak practically screaming food poising at me. Also the "rustic chips" had been double fried and the veg reheated. Out of a part of 6, five of us were unhappy. To improve they need to get a new chief and improve their bar service. The pub has gone from one of the best places to eat in wilmslow to one of the worst.

Wasn't good last time I was in there early 2007. Aged landlady with midriff hanging out and general withdrawal of previous quite good standards food and services built up by previous manager. Dirty and smelly toilets. Bad sign. Will have another visit to see if it's improved Oct 2007.
