A good pint of real ale and a decent meal for 5 people had, however NOT the cheapest pub on the Island for food or drink. 3/4 good ales to choose from but as previous comment not the cheapest available decent real ale.

A good pub food was good, but half a Staropramen at 2 .55 for a half? Do some island pubs charge more for a half?Still worth a visit on a West Wight bus crawl
|
Extensive menu, particularly for fish lovers, and local Goddards beers. The meal and beer were first rate.
|
Four beers available including two from Goddards. Open all day during the Summer but not in the Winter. The bus service is limited to one every two hours.

Very good pub, food always tasty, beer very drinkable. Would recommend.
|
Great pub with an excellent garden. Worth a visit.

Good food, recommended by locals; give it a go. Staff nice, Beer too. Steak and kidney a must, seafood not bad either.

May 2008 visit - Our 1st visit, picturesque/historic olde worlde type pub, dogs allowed, no wifi. Fairly empty the wednesday eve we visited so lacked atmosphere. Manager/host seemed absent, very young staff were helpful. Sadly the reputation for great food wasn't upheld, the fancy menu looks inviting but perhaps too complex for basic pub kitchen staff. I'd go back, but not to eat.

We had a wonderful reception here today for a Birthday lunch. The Bar staff, the Manager and the Chef could not have been more helpful and the food was 1st class.Comparable with the London Hilton, and what reasonable prices too. Very affordable.
We will certainly return soon and a big THANK YOU to all the staff for your hospitality. Ann Lawrence, Carisbroke.

Been here 3 times this year, had a lovely lunch just last week, sat on the decking in the sun, glorious crayfish ciabatta and a pint - just mighty fine

Beer OK (Goddards and London Pride sampled) in foodie pub. Can see where it makes its money. Too expensive for Malcolm from Totland.

We won't be going back - visited two years ago and had top quality seafood but this time the food was mediocre pub grub - the fish did not taste fresh - and the welcome (being told aggressively to move our campervan, because it was taking up two spaces in the carpark, at a quiet time - only 1 other set of diners) was confrontational and offputting. The service was quick and the beer seemed well kept - but not enough to tempt us back I'm afraid.

Fabulous! A real find and worth a visit if you are on the island- in fact the highlight of our trip. Friendly staff, wonderfully creative and varied menu, tapping into local produce ( fish and meat) but also doing excellent pub favourites. We had John Dory and Partridge and the meals were tasty, well presented and the vegetables cooked to perfection plus the best tasting carrots I have ever eaten. The wine list is extensive although not O.T.T. Good value and a true gastropub. A real gem!

Visited this pub early on a Tuesday evening in October. It has a main entry in the Good Pub Guide and I must admit that the 6X I tried was well kept and the extensive menu looked great. However, parking is very limited and there was a god-awful stink inside - smelt like some of their fish had been off for a week. Shame, because we were looking forward to sampling some of the specials, but there was no way we could have kept our food down with that lingering smell.
|
The specials board looked good (but pricey!), however, as we were just stopping in for a quick bite, we both had the steak sandwich. To be honest, for more than 7 I'd expect much better. Will have to try it in the evening and have something off the specials bord.

Excellent pub if you want food with your drink. If you do just want a drink I would have to agree with comments of others that space is limited as the pub is obviously very popular for food and for good reason. We visited twice (22/7/2006 and 27/7/200) and both times beer, food and service was excellent. Will definitely return on our next trip to island.

Just to add the beer - Goddards Special Bitter - well-kept and refreshing, and went well with the crab.
|
Stopped for a beer and a bite Sunday May 7th around 1.00 PM, and fine for eating and/or drinking. It did gte busier, but plenty of room for everyone. The Local Crab and Prawn cocktail with some bread was excellent, and quite enough!
The fire place hasn't seen a roaring open fire for decades, but the wood stove looks as if it would do a decent job in the middle of winter. Lots of fishing' and other impedimenta, photos, etc - a great place to relax, unwind, refresh, and restore.

This is a restaurant masquerading as a pub. On our visit, 7.30 on a Friday, there were no seats for drinkers, with all tables reserved for eating, some as late as 8.30, so, a quick half and move on. If you want to eat in a 'real ale restaurant' then by all means go there, but for a dink, forget it. Visited July 04, voted 5 (for the beer quality only)
