I believe this pub is a music venue, but on the night we visited theer wasn't any - not that we minded. The TVs were pretty loud though. The pub iteslf has been recently refurbished, and its pretty cavernous inside. There was one real ale available, but if you want that kind of thing The Chequers across the road would be a better choice. Probably caters for a younger crowd than us. OK but not exceptional.

In relation to the reviews below yeah the last lord...although a (at times) nice bloke he did run this place into the ground a bit....HOWEVER...
UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT!!!!
Andy and Jen (and team) are superb hosts....the place has had a really good makeover and its certainly my fave pub in the Old Town...looks really smart from the outside and will be great in the summer..
Has a regular DJ who really plays some banging tunes...has regular bands but above all else has a good atmosphere.....prices are competitive too....
So in light of the reviews below...now ignore...cracking boozer again!

Every now and then i get lumbered by friends on a pub crawl to pop into this sorry excuse for a public house. It literally has nothing going for it,no real ale,too expensive, grotty and an almost tumbleweed like atmosphere. The last time i was roped into going in for a drink a while back there was a band on and i suspect there is more atmosphere to be found on the moon than created by the tiny audience of people who look like they were there because they had nothing else to do that night. i probably get press ganged into going in this "pub" about twice a year and that is far too much. The only highlight that makes me and my friends giggle and shiver in equal measure on several occasions we have passed through this tip a very disturbed football fan has been sitting at the bar wearing his colours on a evening out(i won't mention the team as i'm into rugby) coming out with deeply worrying comments about other teams fans and the rest of humanity in general whilst almost frothing at the mouth, in between telling the worlds biggest lies that are literally beyond laughable(this is a psychologists dream before the straight jacket is inevitably applied for good) .it disappoints me that pubs in stevenage are closing down but this dive is an exception, the sooner it becomes a mexican or thai restaurant etc the better as i don't want to ever be dragged into this hole ever again. My advice isjust walk on by!

The prices for this tired pub are exorbitant. A fair few of the clientelle should consider changing their tipple to shandy and try adding a few non swear words to their vocabulary. The place has good potential put needs new life.

Every time I have been it here recently it has been completely dead and therefore hardly the place to start a night out. It used to be fantastic (before it changed hands and had a major re-furb)technically it still should be great as it has a good layout and is large enough to cater for a lot of custom but it sadly has put people off I believe with it's 'Sports Pub' image and one glance inside at the type of clientele (if any) when walking past is enough to put you off. They should have a re-think about marketing it to a different crowd as it could make a fortune if pitched right.

Sports bar with friendly atmosphere, lots of big screen tvs, giant retro video games, pacman, space invaders ect. pool tables and pinballs, a good pub to meet up before a big night out. Music accross the board with acoustic evenings and live DJ's
