It's okay but basically a bog standard Young's house with no guest ales on show.

This is Sidmouths best pub in my opinion. Tucked away off the beaten track it has more of a local feel. We popped in on a cold winter day and the log fire was going it was lovely a good 9//10

A really impressive looking detached pub, down a side street, with white painted brick exterior with green paintwork. It also has an impressive beer garden
The interior is open plan around the bar. Decor was white and wood panel, with wood beams. There were lots of brass ornaments and pictures to colour the place, along with a piano. The service was very friendly and the place well attended, with the maturer clientele.
Beer; its a Youngs pub, so after the tap tosh, there were three handpulls with Young's Bitter, Special and Kew. I had a half of each, they were well kept.
A really nice experience, one i would love to repeat. Watch the opening times, i missed it the first time during Sunday afternoon

I have just recently returned form a small break in Devon. I visited Sidmouth on a pre tour as I have heard of the sidmouth folk festival and I wanted to get the low down on the local pubs before my preposed visit to the festival this year (never been before). I read all the reviews on the pubs prior to my visit and I would like to add my humble opinion.
Nice little pub. As I am not a small pub lover , I was pleasantly surpised at this one. Food Ok and good service.

Not a bad little pub - tucked out of the way but worth seeking out for a friendly welcome and well-kept ales.

Back from sea. So popped in for lunch with Shandy Chica and the Captain's Dad. Nice pint, fire going in the public bar with a couple of locals to ad to the atmosphere. Very large selection of food on offer. We all chose the soup and sandwich deal. Excellent in all respects. Will be back soon.
Just as an aside. Passed the Bowd on the way into Sidmouth. Now showing a very large sign, saying under new management with a new menu. Lets hope the new people actually get around to serving you.....

Lovely old pub, seems to be base camp during Sidmouth Festival week, excellent beer. Look out for the radioactive cheddar cider!

Delightful pub in every way. Comfortable interior, pleasant courtyard beer garden and in particular excellent food. Youngs and Branscombe beers on offer at my last visit. Well worth seeking out.

Good beer and a friendly atmosphere. A bit off the beaten track, and surrounded by car parks, but worth the short walk out of town to get here.

Found this pub by accident May 2006 after visting some of the sea front establishments. Wish I'd found it sooner. Beer in great condition and some excellent (& large) fish meals on offer. Very friendly owners
