I really liked it in here and that�s not just because it has a pool table, a couple of plasma screens and TWO dartboards. I�m not that keen on watching �Cash in the Attic� whilst supping my beer, but I was able to sit at the rear of the pub near the exit to the beer garden to have some peace.
Youngs Ordinary, Special and Directors were available with one pump being off. There is also a wide selection of standard lagers.
This would be a great place to have an extended stop off during a pub crawl.

Came here a few times in the 80s, but today paid my first visit here since then. As I recall it used to be a straightforward no-nonsense boozer � and it still is! As John B says, it doesn�t change much, which is most definitely a good thing. Just Young�s ales of course, but the pint of Special I had was very welcome during a hot muggy lunchtime in August.
It was very quiet when I was in during a weekday lunchtime; just me - and a couple of old lads reminiscing about how the pub used to look in days gone by. I guess it might be a very different place in the evening, but even when it�s busy it will still be a very good pub. I like it, and would recommend to anyone who likes an unpretentious pub.

Good honest Youngs locals pub on the main road from Richmond to Mortlake. I'm a bit suprised that it's only had 2 postings since my introductory comment below in November 2004.
I've little to add to that posting, which is still largely true today.
This was the pub that the Watneys draymen used to drink in in the 70's when Grotneys ( sorry Watneys ) was brewed at the Stag Brewery close by

friendly local Young's pub where i spent a very enjoyable afternoon watching football....one of the better stops on a mortlake crawl including the ship, the tapestry and the railway. apparently there is music some nights.

used to use it in the seventies,had a bloke who used to put "from a jack to a king" on non stop. is it still on the c/d player i wonder ??

Well, looks like I've got the honour of being the first person to comment on this pub.
Its a smallish one bar no - frills Youngs pub close to what is now The Stag Brewery. It is virtually opposite The Tapestry gastro pub ( whose main claim to fame incidentally was in its previous incarnation as The Jolly Milkman, apparently the only pub in the country with that name )
The Jolly Gardeners is very much a local, but not in the hostile, unfriendly style. As well as the smallish main bar, there is a larger room attached with a snooker table. I gather this room is used for functions, bands etc.
There is no food.
It doesn't get the passing trade that say The Ship does since it is not on the river, although it is only about 200 yards inland from The Ship along the road running alongside the pub.
On the Sunday afternoon that I was there, there was a good mix of customers of all age groups enjoying the Newcastle - Man Utd game on the screen. Being a smallish pub, the TV was quite dominating, but was not overloud.
The Youngs Ordinary was on good form.
In conclusion, its a rather unremarkable down to earth Youngs local, probably worth popping in for one pint if doing a crawl in the area.
