Lantern Pike Inn, Little Hayfieldback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
I'll bet after a day on Kinder Scout they could have served you boiled shoe leather and you'd have wolfed it down, Harry, but I trust your comment still.
I've been past this place so many times and never stopped, but you've persuaded me to do just that next time.
Gerremin, I agree entirely about the dogs issue. I don't know why, but in the last few months many pubs generally seem to have become akin to kennels. Once, the few dogs that came were as still and quiet as could be, but now they seem free to wander about among the customers being a smelly nuisance. I'm wondering if there's been recent publicity encouraging this.

Fantastic ! After a great day out on Kinder Scout really superb Landlord and very good food. Cottage Pie, often bland, at The Lantern Pike, is quite delicious.
Very much recommended.

Only a lemonade - which was nectar itelf after the walk on Lantern Pike. The menu looked excellent, but we didnt stop for long.

Great to see a no-dogs pub. I've never understood how shops that serve food don't allow dogs, but some pubs that serve meals do.

Friendly traditional pub with lots of Corrie memorabilia and good Landlord. Also pleased to see NO DOGS !

I give this pub a zero rating because I didn't have the opportunity to taste the food or drink on offer as my family and I left after being made to feel extremely unwelcome within less than 1 minute of walking through the door. We were 4 people, ranging in age from 29 to 54 plus one dog and we have never before experienced such treatment in any of the many pubs we've visited around the country.
Having e-mailed in advance to check that this was a dog friendly pub and receiving confirmation that well-behaved dogs were welcome, we arrived this week with a well behaved dog (graduate of obedience classes and star of socialisation classes, with certificates as proof) to be confronted with a No Dogs allowed sign. This was just the first indication of an unfriendly greeting that verged on the hostile. Confused by the contradiction between No Dogs notice and advice received in response to e-mail enquiry one of us went in for a quick recce and found that there were dogs in the pub, so we went in - big mistake! We were greeted by a football shirted person we assume was the landlord with the words, "I'm not having that in here" - it took a moment or two for us to realise that he was talking about our dog, which he thought looked "lively" (a bit of a strange conclusion, given that by this time the dog was lying down, hoping no doubt for a well-earned rest whilst we took refreshment). We had to rouse the poor creature (who was just preparing to bask in the admiration of younger customers) and leave the pub, like most people we find pleasure not only in good beer, but also in a friendly and welcoming atmosphere, something that was completely absent on Friday 11 September 2009.

Well worth the walk from Glossop along a dangerous road but well served by the bus service if I had looked first. My favourite mild, Moorhouses Black Cat in excellent condition, a huge bowl stuffed with chicken, bacon, caeser salad and strawberries and a most attractive and friendly waitress - what more could be asked. Even the dead leaves were being replaced on the trees (well they had disappeared when I came out!)

Good food, reasonable prices, good beer, excellent setting. Hard to park, and you can only get there by car/bike realistically, although occasionally buses do pass by.

A superb comfortable pub, friendly welcome good beer a definate must.

Although I drive past the Lantern Pike on my way to work every day I've never been in until last weekend. A big group of us had a meal there and they catered for a party of 13 without blinking. Food was good and came quickly, and the beer was very pleasant too. I'll certainly go back.

A real pub ! Great Food, Great beer, but the welcome is sensational. Arrange a group meal - let them know you are coming and you won't be disappointed. The pub where the original characters and ideas for coronation street where created - but not a city pub - out in the sticks with great location.

This Pub was everything we'd hoped for, great hosts, lovely atmosphere, excellent location. We would go back time and again.

What A great atmosphere good food, very very friendly, fantastic b&b Just a great place to visit and an added bonus for coronation street fans, Tony Warren (the creator) wrote the first few episodes in the pub during the early sixties!
