Very smart pub inside and out. Has a bit of an upmarket chain feel to the place.

Does what it does well - good food, service and the Stewarts 80 shilling was fine.

My last pub of the day which takes me to 7 ticks, a decent effort if I say so myself!

Another New town pub and this one is on the way back to my hotel.

8 hand pumps with 6 ales on. 2 offerings are from the very local Pilot brewery, a new brewery for me so I went for their Mochccino Stout @ 5.5%, cracking ale.

Probably the 2nd best pub of the day for interior but by far the best actual pub. Its around 10.15pm and its half full with mainly locals.

The bar area and the room to the left and the snug have pub advertising mirrors and signs a plenty, some of these look quite rare and must have taken a good effort to collect them all.

A buzzy atmosphere with the bar staff getting involved in the chatter with the punters.

I was knackered after a long day so I only stayed for 1 beer but this is most definitely a place I'll return to.

9/10 for me.

Good selection of ales in reasonable condition - had Jarl on sale when I visited...have tasted it better though elsewhere...sharper more hoppy.

i've always liked this pub, beer ok while not been great, nice selection of malt whiskies, my main quibble with the pub is the price's i found it to be the most expensive pub in edinburgh, on my last visit.

A smart, wood panelled affluent pub with an ambience in keeping with the tasteful Stockbridge district it nestles in. Extremely comfortable seating, but not especially welcoming, with the bar staff eyeing newcomers with either suspicion or apathy. Ales not particularly memorable. It seemed very popular, but to be fair this is type of bar is not really my cup of tea. Now immortalised in Alexander McCall Smith's '44 Scotland Street' stories.

Generally an ok pub. Good beer selection, food can be hit and miss.

Lovely beer garden if the bad neighbours upstairs aren't complaining. Depending when you visit you'll be battling at the bar with the bankers from round the corner. Some nights 3 or 4 leaving dos from RBS can make it a pain to be served.

I was 10 years late visiting this pub! It was always on my list of Edinburgh pubs to try but, because of its location, I'd never got round to it. From my one visit (so far) I love this place: Good beer, good food, friendly staff, no loud music, interesting architecture/decor. I'll be back!

Have been here a few times over the past few years. The interior is beautiful. The real ales are usually not great, and I have had a few poor pints there as well, more than I have had great pints.

A large pub mostly deserted when we were there on sucessive Sunday lunchtimes (food til 4 at weekends) Several rooms some of which are non smoking and decorated in the more usual style for Scottish pubs of dark wood interior but this well maintained and comfortable seating. If you're feeling hungary then try a burger - puts macdonalds to shame!!
