hasn't this place gone now, replaced by Jamie's?

Overpriced an dull establishment which is also terribly laid out inside. Recently had the pleasure of paying a cover charge in on a Friday night before immediately turning around and exiting without ordering a drink...the knob of a doorman refused my request for refund also to add insult to injury.Do yourself a favour and avoid this dive.

We have just had a terribel evening in this bar, for a cost of almost 90! The service was poor and slow. The food was good but the lack of care made it awful. We had to ask for our order to be taken, the meal was slow in arriving. The cheese came without enough crackers, asking for some more took over 10minutes; for water crackers! The service was over 12%! When I asked to see the manger the witresses then walked over to him and he walked off, not bothering to come across and addrees our issues! I will not be going back and would tell anyone that for that price go to 'Inside' brilliant food and service! Bar Du musee use to be lovely so sad it has come to this...very poor.

What in the world is wrong with some of the Greenwich pubs? Or should I say the ones owned by the terrible Greenwich INC. The staff are rude, totally uninterested and the managers aren't any better, shouting at staff in full view of the public and telling customers to "f" off when they complain. I don't know why Greenwich INC is still making money when clearly they deserve to be out of business. There needs to be a boycott of all Greenwich INC establishments before they are allowed to take over and ruin any more of our pubs.

Shocking service...rude, insulting, lazy staff.. poor, uninterested management..
Have been on the recieving end of, and witnessed on more than one occassion, bar staff insulting and dismissing customers..
the rating is for the great location, character and nice setting..

At least they have kept the atmospheric front bar - and i am grateful for the well designed smking area (aka garden) out back. Food really overpriced and no longer such a good collections of wines
|
This place has careened downhill at an alarmming rate in the last few years. For a wine bar its astonishing how often they are out of the wines on their (overpriced) list. Service is generally ghastly and the bar staff usually give you your change on a little tray in the hope that you are going to leave a tip for their attempt at record breaking slowness. The warehouse out the back gets full with noisy drunks at the weekends.

The original, tiny front of the bar is pretty much unchanged and retains the character that this place had before the ubiquitous Greenwich Wrecking Inc took it over. But, when you step out the back into the noisy greenhouse extension that was created to ram as many people as possible into the place you wonder how they managed to get planning permission. The wine list is unexceptional and overpriced and the venue continues to go downhill. The pluses are the garden (now mainly given over to diners) and the atmospheric front section

Cracking little place to finish off at. When your horny and pissed up check out the big girls on offer.
|
The front of the bar still retains the original character and the garden out the back is real nice. The God awful greenhouse extension thing is a bit like a Wetherspoons though

Thie was the best and most civilised place in Greenwich until Greenwich Inc got their hands on it, extended it and introduced rude staff who have the attitude of Attila the Hun. The food is dire, the once excellent wine list is now merely average, the service is surly and disinterested....nice building, handy late licence (though every bar in town will have one soon) Avoid unless you want to drink late.
|
Very nice bar, great place to go for a good session. Quite expensive and doesnt do pints so that keeps the chavs out. Havent had the food but you have to wait to sit out the back until the restaurant has finished so only really worth going to after 11pm.
|
Dreadful. Arrived 8.40pm for dinner. Did not receive main course until 10.30pm. Got 2 rounds of free drinks to be fair but the food was average. Will not be going back.

Oh for Gods sake stop using this site for whinging..
This pub is always busy, has a good stock of beers, wine and champagne and a cracking atmosphere, what more could you ask?????
So you have to wait for your order to be taken, its called sectioning, stock control, whatever!!
We all have our own job descriptions and believe it or not it works the same in a pub!.
I love this pub, good atmosphere, good range of drinks, considering how busy it is you don't have to wait to long..
Not yet eaten, but promise will try
|
Oh, ok, my apologies. If only the waitresses could've multi-tasked too...
anonymous - 27 Jul 2005 11:23 |
"male" friends means not quite a boyfriend but more than a friend!! only that comment would come from a man!
|
Never been to this pub - but have to admit to being intrigued by story of Samanthalbird and her "male" friend (see below). Never mind the the aptitude of the waitresses, what's "he" done to deserve the inverted comma treatment?
anonymous - 26 Jul 2005 15:37 |
I went here on saturday night with a "male" friend - it was a bit confusing on whether we were supposed to wait to be seated, but eventually someone came & found us. We got a table outside which was great, but the waitresses cannot multitask so one takes your order for food & another for wine, however the wine girl cant take your food order - very weird!! However, the food was good & the atmosphere really lively, would seriously recommend going for a night out!

Ordered a meal here last August, still waiting, let me out!
|

I worked there for five years and it used to be so relaxed. The minute you walked it it was like you were in central Paris, especially with David's presence sipping his Rioja. Things now are far from then. The stuff are so rude and arrogant it's almost unbelievable. About a month ago i was in there drinking with my family and we had to witness a waitress swearing at another in front of at least 5 customers who were waiting to be served at the bar. Except from that, Bar Du Musee is a great place to drink and eat. The refurbishment is a total success and the place is heaving every weekend with good quality people who are out there simply to have a good time. It's still the place where i always arrange to meet my friends, spend the whole night there or even move somewhere else after a bottle of wine from their superb selection.

i worked here in 1997 there are lots of wonderful stories about this place hey man it was one of the best times of my life and I still think about all the beautifeul crazy girls who used to work there and not forgetting dearest David rip. jade

For drinks, this place isnt bad but Im told the food (which was once amazing) is now shockingly bad. Cant get a pint though which means twice the number of trips to the bar! Toilets are way cool (if youre into that kinda thing)

Absolutely HORRIBLE!!!! My husband and I went there for a Sunday brunch... Well it took us about a 1/2 hour to get our drinks ordered. We finally were able to get a hold of our waitress where we gave her our orders. My husband asked for the English breakfast but wanted fried eggs (as it indicates they are scrambled) I clearly stated that I wanted the breakfast tortilla with NO MUSHROOMS. About 40 minutes later we get our meals and my husband has warm, runny scrambled eggs and I had mushrooms in my tortilla. I sent back my order and asked for a different meal (at which time I was starving) so I also order a bowl of french fries. My husband gave up and finally just at his disgusting meal, while I patiently waited for my other meal I had ordered, my bowl of fries came. I asked for some ketchup and by the time she arrived with the bottle we had finished our fries. Still waiting for my meal - WHICH BY THE WAY NEVER CAME. We finally just asked for the bill which also had the meal I had NEVER received. We asked for the bill to be amended, got it back and it still was wrong. She eventually got it right... It's too bad because if they had an experienced manager who was competent and actually knew what it means to hire responsible staff that was friendly, courteous, capable, and knew a thing or two about CUSTOMER SERVICE, it would be a cool place. The outside dining is really a great atmosphere but that's about it. The staff is obnoxious, condescending, and the customer service is NON-EXISTENT!!!! It's really too bad because there are not many places to dine outside in Greenwich where the area is well maintained, has a lot of tables and the garden is well manicured. Would make it for a nice lunch or dinner in the Summer.

Great place although the bar staff can be arrogant. Ideal for a summer drink but could use some decent bar snacks.
Sarah - 3 Jun 2004 10:40 |
Can only agree with the last post. Should never have gone there in the first place. Food was appaling, the staff slow and arrogant. I was short-changed and, upon complaining to the manager he showed his utmost 'respect' by having me evicted. There are definitely better places to go in the area

I used to eat in this bar frequently and loved it BUT called in for Sunday lunch this weekend, lovely place, friendly staff, but AWFUL food. Two fatty slices of pork with no crackling and a few soggy potatoes with an apple ring is a NOT Sunday Roast NO VEG AT ALL!! I asked if they could give me some vegetables and (after some time)was given a rocket salad with vinaigrette (hardly goes with a roast) for which I was charged an extra 3.50. Very disappointing.

Nice place - we werent eating and only went in after other pubs closed but the staff were friendly, the drinks were nice and it was a good vibe!
Dman - 14 Apr 2004 14:49 |
Not really the kind of place you would go for a beer. More a restaurant and winebar nowadays.

We should have known better... I had the same options as Tina on 02 February with the same results. The onion tart was okay as a starter; my partner had the crab and salmon boudin and was relatively happy. The risotto CAKE is a disaster!! A large snack-a-jack, but without the flavour. This single dish should be held up as an example of what is bad about poor restaurants... Okay, the kitchen space may be very small to serve such a large restaurant, so the menu reflects the fact that the food is prepared in advance and presented as a 'posh' fast food. Such a shame as the setting is very good and the waiter service is 'sympathetic' (possibly as a resuot of the food).

Used to be a lovely, cosy place with a rich and warm atmosphere. Now full of Tarquins and Tarquinas and serious looking men in polo neck jumpers. A great pity.
Stef - 25 Feb 2004 16:27 |
Great for a romantic drink/eat, although its a bit expensive when you have a pikey student as a girlfriend!! Nice people, open relaxed multicultural atmosphere, good food, fine wine what more could you wish for?!! The manager has lots of qualifications and letters after his name I was most impressed! Has a peculiar skateboard dress code but I was great skater in my day, whey!! Some amazing modern French and European art pieces displayed on the back wall which are well worth the visit. Highly recommended by the Dickson, in fact its slightly better than the Gloucester Pub (also worth a visit), which is conveniently situated around the corner!

I much prefered it when it was a quiet, dark & dingy mis-matched bar. Now it is always packed with torists & trendies. The food prices have rocketed but the portions have got smaller.
Lolly - 10 Feb 2004 14:59 |
Quite surprised after reading a number of excellent reviews to have such poor main course. Fantastic appetizer (onion tart) followed by fried ball(!!!!) of "risotto" - clearly just over-cooked white rice - the cheese totally overpowered the "wild" mushrooms...we were so horrified we left without dessert
Tina - 2 Feb 2004 09:24 |
Terrible food & amateur service made for a very dissappointing Xmas lunch. main courses were mostly served lukewarm & the soup starter was so measly you couldn't actually scoop up a full spoonful. 2/10

Used to be a quaint little bar, cosy and friendly. Now are gargantuan carbuncle. How did they get planning permission for that wedding marquee? Lost its friendly atmosphere (I'm not an old regular, complaining just because I don't like change, but I used to enjoy going in there every now and then for a quiet, cost drink. Smiling friendly bar staff, quality wine, relaxed service. Now its just another Pitcher & Piano.

Phil - 18 Jul 2003 16:04 |
Ate there on 13/5/03. Service was slow Food was overpriced and certainly not worth the West End prices they are trying to charge. Final addition of a 12% service charge on top of a steep bill makes it a restaurant to be avoided
David - 14 May 2003 12:02 |
Went last night and was amazed how big it is out the back now. I rather liked the garden when it was there. It would help if there were enough bar staff to handle the number of punters - service can be slow.
|
Now huge due to semi-permanent tent extention in back yard, complete with carpet, tables and heating. A bit like a tardis now
