Jonesey It was an old school pub, before the revamp as O'Raffertys. The rot started then

Well, it wasn't really a traditional British pub was it ? - it was a manufactured Irish theme pub. Had some good nights there, but nothing special.

Disgraceful.Thats the only way to describe how Harringey council allowed this place to be knocked down. As was said below, Jethro Tull played here,i was also told Rod Stewart played here early in his career.Steve Marriot use to drink here.It sickens and saddens me what is happening to the British Pub.It really is something we are genuinly the best in the world at.Yet we are replacing real pubs with chain rubbish and theme pubs.

It's not being demolished, Fairway are converting it into something. The Fishmongers Arms sign is still on the outside wall however
|
Definitely closed now. Bought by Fairview (more matchbox housing for more chavs probably). Damn shame that, given it's history. What's happening with Wood Green pubs? The Litten Tree, the Nightingale, O'Rafferty's - all went into steep decline and are no more. Charlie Brown's used to be a lovely little pub when O'Rafferty's was the Fishmongers but maybe I'm being too nostalgic here *sigh*.
Not a decent restaurant in the area either! *even bigger sigh*
Wood Green's such a dive these days - no class - sorry - didn't mean to rant - I'll shut up now :o)
(it's true though)

Defin shut now. Im travelling thru New Zealand. Saw Phil out here, shit at the end of Sept.
|

|

It really has gone down the pan since Christmas. Last time I was in there was about 3 weeks ago. Dirty glasses everywhere (and I mean everywhere). 3 other customers + us 2 = 5 on total. Heard it's been sold and think it might be true.
Why are there no decent pubs in Wood Green anymore?

This was the legendary Fishmongers Arms where Jethro Tull played in the 60's. I moved away from the area years ago and recently revisited on a nostalgia trip. People say you should never go back. I don't regret it but it was a disappointing experience. Maybe i'm just getting old.

shabeens rules!!!!!!!!!!!

A geniune irish pub, the kind that o'neills is not so successfully modelled on. Good for celtic and ireland matches. Generally good atmosphere, and not to expensive!
|
Irish pub - strange layout inside though. Live music every weekend is a bit hit and miss. Excellent if you like all things Irish but sometimes you do get a bit fed up with too much fiddledy dee and Van Morrison's "Brown Eyed Girl". Friendly crowd and barstaff. No bouncers. Strict on closing time as the Shebeen starts up soon after at the back of the pub - 5 entry to that but never managed to try it out.
