Gone down hill a bit since my last visit. choice not bad if you ignore the fact all the Beers were of a similiar strength, quality , well drinkable ,but also not as good as on previous visits.

Somewhat lacking in character but welcoming and a good choice of ales, albeit at premium prices (3.40). Worth a look if going to the Highbury up the road.
|
Rapid improvement from my last visit , 5 or 6 ales great choice that included one from dark star, yummy. Expensive yes , but there are more expensive pubs than this , and at least a good choice. Premier league. 9/10

Totally endorse clevedonquaffer's comments below about the ale - the Hophead and Yeovil ale particularly good BUT (and there's always a but) crikey, it was as dead as a doornail here last Sat night. Please turn off the TV and put some music on or do something - perhaps everyone was at the Green Man beer festival up the road.

Terrific Pub for Beer Enthusiasts...
On Tap during my visit: Brooklyn Lager, Brew Dog 5am Saint & Punk IPA, Moor Revival, Otley & Worcester Sauce Ales, too..
Also spotted Flying Dog Scratch IPA in bottles, along with a good selection of Belgian & US craft lines...
The food was also excellent, the Steak Sandwich with Chips was 6.50 i think, and to a very high standard...the menu was small, simple & suitable to accompany a predominantly beer drinking social gathering.....
Will be returning asap to this smart pub....

As others have said, this was refurbished a year or so back and now has a bit of a gastro-pub feel to it, although thats just from the decor its not a food dominated pub by any means and in fact I only spotted one portion of food coming out, which was a rather appetising looking pie and mash.
The pub itself is divided in two to bars, one at the front and one at the back. The bar counter runs between the two. The floors are reclaimed boards which seem to be rather in vogue at the moment and the walls are all a plain olive green with minimal decorations. Some trendy looking hanging lamps dominate the bar area. A plasma was on in both bars showing the football and the pub was fairly packed with people watching, which spoilt the ambience somewhat if you were just out for a quiet pint. The only place to avoid the sport was squeezing on to one of the bar stools.
Beers on tap were Yeovils Posh IPA, Brewdogs Rip Tide and Moor Revival. There were a couple of pumps out of use, but the chalked up list of guests next to the bar suggested that these were Moles Rucking Mole and Cotleighs Old Hooker. There were also a couple of keg Brew Dogs, Punk IPA and 5AM Saint. Ciders were Thatchers Gold and Heritage, plus Aspalls Suffolk.

A pub that I probably pop into only about 2 or 3 times a month , but I have to say really disapointed on this visit disapointing choice of beer that included d***bar , no cider except addlestone , seemed to remember they had hecks farmhouse perry on a little back . Quality was poor , like they were washing the glasses in some strong biological solution that had stuck in the glass. bar staff pleasant enough but thats all.

I had twigged on my last-but-one appearance in Bristol that this old-time favourite of mine had recently endured a makeover, and initial glances suggested it had been of the misguided variety, with a hotel-style glass front door, light and airy decor and the ubiquitous nasty laminate flooring all in evidence. However, a friend who had sampled it since did advise that despite the arguablu inappropriate contemporary touches, it doesn't seem to jar so much once within, and the ale and beer selection had improved considerably, along with the food menu.
My chance came to test this opinion out 3 weeks back and by and large I agree. There are some traditional touches still remaining inside, and it hasn't completely been given over to bistro-chic. Not as cosy as it once was, but then it's aprice worth paying for the range of 6 excellently-kepy cask beers, alongside various genuine imports on tap which undoubtedly the local students think are the trendy option. Stick to Glastonbury or Yeovil beers - there's some really good stuff coming through these pumps now.
Food should be superb if it has a chance of being commensurate with its pricetag; I am not too certain who they are pitching to here? Neither nurses from the nearby hospital or students from the University would be that interested in sub-gastro fare I'd have thought - perhaps the local residential crowd take advantage of an evening. Still, good luck to them. I notice they've made a little more of the small beer garden at the back - always a claustrophobic but private little enclave.
Not a perfect blueprint for every outlet, and this may yet divide some visitors as to its relevance. But the quality with regard to beer is certainly not in question.

Nice refurb, nice staff, superb range of real ales, real cider, imported German lager, wheat beer and the US Anchor on draught too! A bit pricey for beer @ 3.20 a pint for TT Landlord but it was sublime and one of the best pints of Landlord I've drank outside of Keighley.
Bad point? Shame there had to be one and it is chronic - The prices of food were ridiculous! Main courses seemed to be in the 10 - 14 range, I can eat @ Marco Pierre White's Chelsea restaurant for that sort of dosh and eat top end food - Have they hired Gordon Ramsay here in the kitchen or something? Havin' a laff and I hope they reconsider both the menu and the pricing of.

2nd comment , to attract people , that photo on bite is bloody awlful

called in when very quiet 11.38 . not bad beers otter amber ,station porter, and yuk doombar , cider squite interesting , wish blackthorn was here, yarlington mill cider was the strongest ,wye cider , and gorge best also, interesting choice of contintental beers on keg . only hopen for 3 weeks but hope they do well.

Nice buzzing atmosphere on the early Friday evening I called in. If memory serves, I had something from the Wadworth stable, and found it very good. The kind of place I'd frequent if I lived nearby.
|
Food on my visit was excellent but It's the beer that should count on "Beer"ITE and half the pumps were off and the Box Steam Piston Broke that I drank was as Dandillus described his, dull & lifeless. Pub was pretty empty for the 2 hours I was there so that probably explains why, no turnover.
Couple running the pub were extremely good hosts and are to be commended but what good is that if the ale is naff? Also, that vile green and post office red colour scheme is I would wager a large stumbling block for punters wanting to be inside the pub. Plenty of potential here though so I really would hope to see this place improve in the future going by what I hear about the landlord.

6 x, 0ld higby ,bishops tipple ,amongst the beers , lager sort of normal choice , food well priced ,generous portions , not very busy on a saturday night at about nine o'clock .but overall good
|
Not bad - five ales, Wadworths and guests, excellent pint of Abbey Ales Twelfth Night although the Blindhouse from Box Steam was lifeless. Friendly atmosphere and staff and generous bowl of chips for a quid fifty. Definitely worth a look.
|
I was pleased, though not surprised,to see the pub healthily patronised on my visit. The ale was tip top,Wadworth Henrys and 6X,Great Western Maiden Voyage and Abbey Bellringer were the range, along with Old Rosie cider. The food, which i rarely comment on,was sampled and was both tasty and economical. The landlord and landlady gave a great welcome and if this first visit is anything to go by this will be a great incarnation of a good pub. Worthy of your custom.
|
Due to reopen in the next week or so,will be run by a former landlord of the Reckless Engineer who's a good bloke who made a good job of running the Reckie. Reports also state he will be free of tie on ales. Happy days.
|
Currently closed / for sale. Shame as it is a good little pub.
|
I used to lunch here frequently as an undergraduate 10 years ago, and even then it was a cracking little boozer with good value food, and a decent range of well-kept ales. Nice lively atmosphere. I recently revisited, after about 3 or 4 changes of hands, and happily it was still on form, although the beer was somewhat warm - maybe a one-off aberration? Always worth including in a crawl, although quite how this could be construed as Clifton I don't know (see below). This is Kingsdown good and proper!
|
Nice pub, friendly staff. Not much seating so can get crowded. Great Mexican style courtyard out back which is a nice place for a dribk in the summer. One of the nicest pubs in the legendry Clifton pub crawl
|
Beer is usually OK - only the occasional dodgy pint. I've seen the landlady empty the fruit machine several times after being filled by unsuspecting punters, so avoid playing that.

Decent enough pub. Never had a problem with the beers, and there's a nice view from the gents if the window's open.

The Robin Hood is sitiuated behind a chidrens hospital, I had to travel down a long way to visit a very sick relative, I popped in there for a much needed drink with my sister and we received the warmest welcome. The landlady has been running the pub for a year and has done well, with its great atmosphere and good local customers, good beer and well kept lines and especially there thick cut roast beef rolls which she made for us at 11 o clock at night and didnt charge me. The landlady runs this pub with a good traditional style and a lot of dedidcation which made our stay in Bristol much more comfortable. I highly recommend this pub onto your website.
