First pub that I came to on entering Grantchester on foot. Liked the look of the Balcony, so made my way in.
Its really more of a restaurant now. Every table laid out for food, with wine glasses.
Damn fine pint of Woodforde's Wherry though. This really is top beer!
Some photos at my walking blog - http://mappiman.blogspot.co.uk/2015/07/030715-modest-student.html
Pint finished, I continued my walk through Grantchester and there were two more fine looking pubs.

Closed for a refit.
Re-opened recently a new manager in charge.
Closed for a week now maybe opening next year.

Oh dear! Very poor service and food. Bitter extremely unpleasant as well. Staff were very slow and food very average..... Wouldn't bother with this one!
Rupert Brooke's best member of staff (Billy was it? manager with long dark hair and a slight accent) has moved up the road to the Green Man. This could be the last nail in the coffin of this truly ridiculous pub???
New management moved in last month perhaps they can stop the decline in standards.
Before booking a table at this part pub/part restaurant I would read some of the reviews in the Cambridge Evening News.
Part pub, part restaurant. Great food.
I'm partial to Stowford Press (which they serve), but don't care much for beer.
About a year ago they served the best pub burger (with blue cheese and mushroom) I've had *anywhere* in the world. (No, I really mean that).
Revisited this weekend and they've tweaked the menu somewhat. (The burger's still great, but it used to be exactly what I liked.)
Vegetarian friend was mistakenly served a non-vegetarian pie. The staff were immediately apologetic and the error was corrected. The manager also came over to apologise. We were satisfied with their response.
They appear to be redoing the garden at the moment.

Very much over-rated, and priced too high for what it offers.
Full of pretentious food snobs so not a real pub.
Comment of 24 Feb. 2008: Harveys, not Hardys. A splendid beer, but not common outside Sussex. As for the pub, I agree with the other comments. Food seems to be good, but a bit pricey.
This is definitely a pub aimed at the Grantchester tourist business. More of a restaurant than a real pub. However the food was passable but not the best meal I have eaten and the beer was in reasonable condition. The Blue Ball or Green Man offer a better deal for the pub man.

In the heart of Grantchester this is more of a restaurant than a pub but to their credit they do serve Hardys Sussex bitter which is quite rare some GK beers which are not worth talking about.I have spoken to the Landlord and he said he will have more decent ales in the future.A place for eating I am told but I cant vouch for the quality on that one.Garden at the back and large carpark. Daily papers available to read whilst having a drink.Staff friendly and place not overtly packed.

Recently visited the pub after a few years away. Was pleased with the changes that have been made and enjoyed a decent meal with a friend. Staff were attentive and the food was good. Eton mess was great. Well worth a visit. Will go again when in the area.

On a busy day in Grantchester - one of the few sunny days of summer 2007 - The Rupert Brooke was surprisingly empty. On the bar, it had Woodford Wherry and Sussex Best Bitter, the latter in excellent condition (the former, less so). We ate outside in a pleasant enough beer garden but the choice of smaller meals (baguettes, salad and chips) was very good.
Had a lovely lunch there today. Brie and Bacon baguette was wonderful and nice thick chips. Relaxing atmosphere and generally friendly staff mean we'll definitely be back for dinner sometime. Web site showed a view of the river but I'd forgotten by binoculars and couldn't see it! Walked into Cambridge afterwards to work off the food - great location.

Love it -*this* is Cambridge.
Great place. Great food. Great Service.
The Rupert Brooke is one of my favourite pubs. The menu offers a wide range of tempting foods and I have never had a meal here that was not excellent. The desserts are particularly delicious so save some room! If this was not enough, the staff are very friendly and helpful and it is lovely to sit in the garden overlooking the meadows on a summers evening.

Congratulations to Simon for running one the nicest pubs i have ever eaten in. Everthing was excellent from the very friendly staff to the drinks and the amazing food. My chicken Papiotte was cooked to perfection and my wifes stuffed aubergine was a masterful meal. It was a delight to find such a professional and freindly establishment, thank you all and we shall see you soon. Jeffery and Dorethy Williams

A fantastic pub in a beautiful location with a superb landlord couple Simon & Gaye. Excellent maintained ales and great food! What more do you need from a pub?!
What a fantastic pub set in a rural village location. Great for the family and a good selection of ales. The staff are very freindly and you always get a warm welcome. Keep up the good work.
The current Real Ale offer is Adnams Southwold Bitter, Green King IPA and Timothy Taylor Landlord. All of a very high standard !
Do they have ale? I think we should be told...
