i went to the cantaloupe after they refurb the front of the venue. the new menu they have put on is so diffrent to what they use to do. they have become the new gastro pub of shoreditch. service was fine, all the staff knew what they was doing.it is a very diffrent bar! so diffrent, it felt like a homely pub. im going to have my xmas staff party at the cantaloupe.
i would recommend the cantaloupe to any one in the area who is after a very good meal and a great atmosphire.
going back soon

Have not been here for ages, but pleasantly suprised, still good music, service and best steak in Hoxton, not up its own backside like so many other venues in area. had a great night..

With the Bricklayer's, a pioneer of the Hoxton scene and still does a super plate of tapas. However, it's only if you have a lily-livered pal with you who won't stand for the proper Hoxton experience - grimy, pretentious and initially unappealing bars that turn out to be a nice change. Becoming standard - an ale on tap would maybe turn things round.

I love the description of ferals (sic) being removed from this pub. The funny thing is at least they're not the pretentious individuals who populate this dump of a place. Style over substance, no ales, some 'sophisticated' foreign lagers are on offer, but frankly even the draw of continental lager cannot drive me to attend this place. Why people who go here fancy themselves so much is quite beyond me. Get over yourselves, but please do stay in places like this as you'd invade my space in a decent pub.
Dreadful

Rammo with home county luvvies who now think it's risque and daring to drink in East London. I wish they would beat a hasty retreat back to Northcote road.
Shoreditch is the new Notting Hill. sad but true, folks.
Oh, this place is complete pony by the way.

Serves some nice Absinthe, but the 10 mile trek to the toilets is a downer...

This place is great now that all the shoreditch tramps and ferels have moved on. Much better city clientele that don't smell so much now frequent this lovely establishment.
|
why did bankers and posh take over shorditch? this bar was okay ages ago but i can't stomach all the preppies, bankers and jeans with high heels in this place.

Celebrating 10 years this year, the Cantaloupe was one of the first major bars to open on the Shoreditch scene as it were. Better before the city boys clocked it however, good food, layout and plenty of staff means it's generally a good experience. Best on Sunday afternoons as per below.
|
generally fairly welcoming. best on a sunday afternoon, worst on a friday night when it gets a bit over run by photocopier salesmen.
|
Good bar remains nice and welcoming without being full of trendy eedgits (see many other bars in the area).

Good wine, reasonable beers but quite expensive. A nice place to go during the week... it's a bit too much at the weekend though when the place is totally packed out and drinking sprawls out onto the street.

Decent bar doing good food and excellent beers.

One of the first bars around what is now trendy Hoxton/Shoreditch area, which is now awash other trendy, happening and chic bars and restaurants. None of which however get close to the original and best. Extensive well chosen wine list and a changing list of beers, the wheat beers are particularly good, also a small restaurant in which I have never had a bad meal.
