Rose and Crown, Elhamback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
The Rose and Crown in Elham, Kent is a great pub with plenty of character in a very pleasant village. It has accommodation in large pleasant rooms.
The bar staff are friendly and efficient as is the Landlord, David Fourniller.
However, the high point of our stay was the Caribbean food which was quite simply, one of the best meals I have had in a long time. There were five in our party, four of us had Caribbean dishes, but we all agreed, the food was excellent.

Went in here on a Wednesday lunchtime. Lovely pint of master brew and an excellent lunch (Lamb followed by Apple Pie). Apparently the chef does a mean West Indian curry too. The current licencees have only been here a few months and I would say it is well worth a try. Food service was maybe a little slow - and they weren't busy - but otherwise excellent.

Nice beers in beautiful village.
But don't eat here. Had some decent but not great food here previously. Recent visits have been pretty poor. Salty, overcooked, poorly presented and overpriced. The staff are friendly, but not up to serving food and need reminding for coffees, the bill and so on.
Given the current financial unrest, a pub like this really needs to think about it's pricing and quality, or they'll loose more customers. We gave them a chance, we won't be returning.

After a long walk, we were too late to visit the Kings Arms recommended by the 5th earl as Sunday Lunch had finished. So found ourselves Here.. Had nice couple of Shep Early Bird which was a surprise. Food was also a surprise as very good and served with correct accompaniments. Shame it was spoilt by two annoying kids of someone at the bar, who were placed in front of the fireplace with pencils and paper and then proceeded to ignore that and jump all over the large sofas in front of the fire. I was about to suggest that my two well behaved children join him at the bar, where he was enjoying the ale in peace. Still, will return as not a bad pub and one of the better Shepherd Neames..

Nice pub with an interesting history in a quaint village with good beer. Ordered the Sunday roast, which was OK (rather than outstanding). Service was inattentive at best, ignorant at worst. Had to ask for condiments four times before I got them (by which time, of course, had just about finished eating). Then we asked for the bill. Ten minutes afterwards we got up to pay at the bar, as the waitress who was meant to bring the bill was chatting. The landlord blocked our way, which I felt was a "don't do a runner" kind of move. We paid, left no tip and walked out. A shame, as the pub has a genuinely good feel.

Beutiful pub. The beer makes my tummy ache though.

Large 16th Century former coaching inn with Georgian-styled front, complete with log fire & precarious-looking bendy beams. Believed to have been frequented by the Scarlet Pimpernel. This is a flagship Shepherd Neame establishment complete with 6 en-suite bedrooms, a full, well-kept Shepherd Neame ale range & impressive a la carte menu. Cheesy nibbles on the bar are a nice touch for a Sunday lunchtime.
Complete with giant chessboard & children's play area in a garden offering some spectacular views of the Elham Valley. A classic English country pub in a quaint Kentish village.

Absolutely delicious food, a cut above your usual pub grub and very reasonable prices for the quality. Very friendly landlord and landlady who were welcoming to non-locals.
