A real shame; this place used to be the hidden gem of Soho, for the manic interior and superb staff that genuinely followed the venues namesake. Ive had parties here in the past and often dropped in for a cocktail or two. Unfortunately, the latest bar staff appear to have forgotten the friendly ethos following a badly concocted round of Long Islands for myself and a group of friends visiting the bar for the first time. The drinks were returned to the bar only to be met with the rudest contempt, attitude and a refusal to believe that they could ever do anything wrong; despite me asking for replacements, not refunds. I was told that the proportions cant be wrong as they only use premium liquors, have you never had a cocktail before (?!) and management dont make themselves available for complaints. I'm appalled, saddened thoroughly disappointed; youve lost a regular customer here chaps and the place could nosedive is you keep up this obnoxious approach.

Quite an expensive bar that I found a bit clicky, However I loved the fact that it was different. Barbies on the ceiling and random photo's and objects all over the place and you wouldn't know it was there as its just a door way and then you go down stairs, Worth trying out

A camera in the toilets? Thats certainly different!
Its just a guess, but maybe this is something to do with this being a well known gay bar in Soho? I thought Id mention it, as none of the recent reviewers have and Id hate an unprepared visitor to enter and receive an unpleasant surprise.
No, I haven't been here and I haven't left a rating ... It's not my bag, baby!

I normally prefer 'pubs' to 'bars' but I love this place. Fab decor, interesting mix of clientele and crraazy landlady who holds court on the floor, clad in some fabulous Westwood gown, introducing random people to each other. Sometimes you like 'em, sometimes not, but that's life and you just move on. Service is always quick and I've never found it to be bitchy and I've been in there loads of times. Only drawbacks are the 'traditional' closing time (11pm - just when it could really be getting going) and the prices, which are a bit steep even for Soho.

The staff are inconsistent and bitchy. There are far better places to go in the area that don't exhibit unnecessary attitude.

I used to love the Friendly Society. True the drinks are very expensive, but the atmosphere is funky and the DJ's are excellent. Sadly however i shall not be returning to Friendly after my experience there last night. I was crossing the floor of the bar when a member of staff looked me up and down and yelled "I think you better leave now" to which he then proceeded to laugh. He then quickly added "I am only joking with you". Sadly I don't think he was joking or I would have laughed with him! I am intelligent enough to recognise when a b*tchy little upstart of a queen is giving me his attitude or not. As uncomfortable an experience like this was for me, my question is, Does this employee's attitude and behaviour towards customers represent the company image, moreso it's name? I think the answer is a resounding NO. Fortunately for me, I can use the power of my own money and I will be taking my business and purchases elsewhere. I hope the owners and management of 'Friendly' access this review. Nobody likes a put down comment. As comical as it sounds, it was like experiencing an 'Ugly Betty' moment. If this sort of behaviour continues, then Friendly Society will ultimately be the biggest loser. Enough said.

this bar is friendly as its name suggests, and i've been many times... however on a recent visit on a sunday night, there was perhaps no more than a dozen people and then for some reason a DJ arrived and put on music at a volume level which was about double what was comfortable. the fixtures were shaking and it was not pleasant, so i ended up leaving and i've struck it off the list

The only stylish gay bar I like, with porno barbie / ken dolls and goldfish galore. The toliets could do with a refurb and the beer is quite expensive, but it is one of the best cellar bar in London and the chilled out music is just right for an after work come down!
