Agree with Ellboy here, great potential in the place and Anthony is a fantastic performer with great talent. Be wary of the f***in' psycho element amongst some of the locals however, in that oh so casual broken glass and slashed face sort of way for 'looking at me funny'. Yeah - I'm quaking in my f***in' boots son, now troll off and go and finish your jail sentence and get some more groovy home made tattoos. Good digital jukebox in the establishment - 'Can we have everything louder than everything else please?'

Now run by a good friend of mine called Anthony, who is also a professional Elvis Tribute Artist and is working hard to turn the pub into an entertainment pub, with live music and karaokes, and of course his own show with live band backing, and they were recently filmed playing at the pub by the BBC.

My grandmother used to be the landlady of this pub until she died in 1980..Her name was May Whipp. She loved working here!

This pub deserves a drink just to support the owner Doug who has worked tirelessly to turn it around in hard times. Dont give up Doug!

great place on Evelyn st, have been going for a few years now. Traditional old pub, beer is ok (albeit a touch pricey) but it has a lovely atmosphere as is very catered for the locals. A mixture of oldies and orientals that live in the area too, comes alive Sat and Sun afternoons. Despite the slightly dodgy area they go their best to keep the scummers out (Mens cubicle is locked, you have to ask for the key!!!) and plenty of anti-drug messages which I wish other pubs in the area could do frankly.
Credit to its owner Doug who's a nice chap who wants to keep it going for the sake of the community, here here!!!

nothing like what they showed on 'The Tower', but still a fookin dump.

well has it changed since 1963

Serve very good and reasonably priced basic English meals (egg and chips etc). This is the pub featured in the BBC TV series 'The Tower' - subtitled 'A Tale of Two Cities' - shown on BBC1 in summer 2007. (The series focuses on nearby Aragon Tower, which overlooks the river and which was refurbished by developers Berkeley Homes after they bought it from Lewisham Council.)
