The place was a dump in 2008 and is still a dump in 2011. There management Training is as bad as the place its self. No improvments all round.

The Barley Mow is a fantastic place to go. I have been there several times now and can't fault the place. The manager is friendly and happy to help and has never once been rude. His staff are a credit to him. The food is good value for money and is of a high standard. I take my family there and couldnt ask for a nicer pub to call my local.

This is now a member of the 'sizzling pub' chain and is so poorly run its unbelievable! The bar staff are so slow at serving, the food is cold when it arrives and the manager of this place has such a shocking attitude...take advice and avoid this place!!!

Barley Mow has not changed then, Hanwell Arms if you like real ale he may be putting Seventy Eight on next week, and they know how to serve it not like the Barley Mow thrown at you.

Ok what can I say, ordered a steak, which was full of fat so I sent it back, only to be told, "it's supposed to be like that" my wife ordered a side salad and sent it back because the lettuce was brown at the edges and obviously re-used. I have seen the Chef in the bar area and his whites are filthy and full of dried blood, one of the Waitresses is very very rude, threw the food on the table........Barman, came to my table and said, and I quote "What's up now" I asked him if he'd seen the salad we sent back, and the answer was a no.
I live around the corner from this pub, I am not going to bother again, not only was the manager on duty, she glared at my wife all night, she didn't even come over and ask what was wrong and what she could do to help........and to be honest, she is very lucky my wife didn't create a scene. I spent over 100 on 4 meals and drinks on that night, and now they know who I am too, I will be throwing my monies somewhere else in future...............Nice one Kat

Have stopped at this pub on 5 different occasions in the last 7 months, normaly late afternoon midweek.I have not found it as bad as the previous revues but some pubs can be Jeckyl and Hyde.Mind you it is always quiet at this time. No real ale but whatever was on offer was drinkable but forgetable .

I have used the Barley Mow for many years and i have fnally give up with the place, it always seems full of out of control kids and drunks with the odd pervert, Food takes to long to get to you and when it dose its either cold or burnt. And they have not got any idea about real ale, thats if you get seved.

Went back the other day as was recently refitted. Not much better. Food still basic but slightly improved. Had run out of chips though... I mean, seriously? Staff seem generally hassled and not very friendly. Don't think I'd give it a third chance.

Stupidly gave this hole another chance on Fathers Day. It took 10 mins to be servred our first drink and when I returned to the bar to order food witnessed one of the better bar staff throw his till tag at the manager and walk out. I did the sensible thing and rounded up the family and went elsewhere. I didn't beleive this place could get any worse but trust me it has.

Poor pub, dirty toilets, bad atmosphere, hope to not go back!

From the outside it looks very inviting. All the makings of a great pub. However, it is poorly managed. Very dirty, poor quality food and a small & dirty kitchen. Always running out of beer and mixers and the optics in the bar are completely empty (staff have to go to the lounge if you want a short). Used to be well run with excellent food but the local management need to run it like a real pub or it will decend to the level of the 'Admiral Holland'. Such a shame..!!
Food: Poor quality, dirty plates & cutlery Decor: Not long had a refurb but already run down Toilets: Disgusting. Always water logged, never checked. Does not even have a loo paper holder in the disabled. Service: Reasonable, once you manage to get served
|
Dirty pub. Tables are sticky. Cutlery is dirty and food is poor. Also why does it take so long to get served?
|
Food's still rubbish! Anon's right - dirty sticky place.
|
Time for an update. anonymous is again correct. Unfortunately for me this is my Local Pub but because it's so poor now you won't find me in there often. I would now rather get a cab into town.
|
Useful loos if you get caught short along this stretch of road. No other reason to visit unless you are unfutunately landed with it as your local.

Been a regular at this pub for 6 years. Since the current landlady took over it has gone right downhill. Dirty tables, sticky menus, smelly toilets, the staff can openly be seen taking chips off peoples plates and eating them, very poor hygeine. They also do not wash the skillets as one of the staff told me that washing them damages them.So you often find congealed sauce stuck to them from the previous users dinner.I do not eat there anymore and suggest everybody else does the same.If you do decide to eat there, just take time to look around at the points that i have mentioned. This pub has lost its way tremendously and its a shame as it used to be one of the best in banbury.

Out of town estate pub with no Real ale. Ok for lunchtime food or to meet up, but unless there are good reasons to stay its best to move on.
|
Not a place I go to often as it's on the edge of town, but I have to say the last time I ate there (June 05) the food was atrocious. Cold, bland and plastic.
|
One of the cheapest pubs around Banbury (it's on the out skirts)I agree with comments from anonymous they do run out of beer far to often considering it's a pub!!! The food has improved lately as has the service(bar & table) due to some decent staff having been taken on.

I'm afraid this pub has gone severely down hill very fast in the last 7 months. Although money has clearly been spent on the frontage, this money should have been spent behind the bar in the lounge and in the kitchens. The drinks are reasonably priced and the food is excellent and again well priced - when they have any of them!! Too many times I have been in there and they have run out of the very basics such as coke, lemonade, J20, the mainstream beers and from the food menu, Steak. Considering the menu is mainly steak, when they ran out 3 days ago, effectively most of the menu was unavailable. There are better pubs nearby to go to Im afraid.
