Decent, friendly Wetherspoons with efficient staff and decent ale. 8/10.

As everyone else seems to have commented, better than average 'Spoons in an area where the pub choice is poor. My first pint was off but it was changed without fuss and the replacement was very good.

Typical Wetherspoons - food hot quick filling and good value - Real ale better than avereage for a Wetherspoons - alway seems busy but a good place for a natter ........ Probably my favorite Wetherspoons in Brum

Decided to go to The Bishop Vesey during the beer festival being held by wetherspoons and was disapointed by the selection this CAMRA award winning pub had. Out of the 12 pumps they have only 5 of them were occupied by festival ales and the whole setup seemed to lack effort. Saying that the ones we tried all tasted very good and were well kept, but the Bottle of Sack (the wetherspoons round the corner) which hasn't won any awards had a much better range of about 7 or 8 and they all tasted great. Moaning aside the beer garden was clean and a nice afternoon spent in the sun was had, with a tasty pint in hand.

Go for a regular drink in this typical wetherspoons pub , usually with a good selection of well kept Ales , however...
My latest visit the beers were less than average with one beer completely undrinkable - when it was returned to the bar , the staff already knew which one it was and obviously knew it had gone off. At the ring of the last order bell all the front doors were flung open onto the freezing evening , which we thought was a bit OTT for the couple of dozen drinkers present and not very friendly . Hopefully this was a one off , but if you cant drink the beer whats the point in going ? 6 out of 10 based on previous performance.

one of the better Wetherspoons, not really your snormal spoons crowd in here, but the food is the same as every spoons. At leats they usually have some decent ales.

This was a nicely laid out Wetherspoons with a good choice of real ale. Clean and tidy with a lovely fire burning. Enjoyed my beer. Lovely garden area for summer visiytors, and an upstairs seating area. Friendly staff and good service.

Used to be Ok for real ale and decently priced food. Now its filthy and a typical spoons atmosphere prevails.Nice to have my friends card cloned aswell- from Boldmere to the far east in minutes- that takes some beating!!!

This pub has really gone down hill since Siobhan took over the staff are friendly and there is a nice atmosphere when Lee Clements worked there but the place really does miss him. Bring back Lee! Aaron and Jolene do well running the establishment when she is not there.

I wouldn't say that The Bishops Vesey is better than The Bottle of Sack, just different. The Bishops Vesey is more focused on evening dining and ale drinking as they have an excellent selection. Where as the The Bottle of Sack (being a Lloyds No1 Bar) has a younger more lively atmosphere, lunch is the busy food time for The Bottle of Sack rather than the evening.

The Bishops Vesey has typical wetherspoons decoration but with some great features, for example it has a fire place which is lit when necessary and some of the seating surrounding the fire is like what you would find in a country house. As said before there is a greater focus on food here the cod is hand battered and more effort is generally put into the cooking and serving than found in most wetherspoons.

Since it when non-smoking this place has really turned around, I would recommend it for family dinning or a drink with friends.

Nice Layout, always a good selection of Beers, much better & friendlier mix than the Wetherspoons in Sutton (the sack) which is full of teenagers, service is sometimes slow, but this is a good local.

It's now gone no smoking, unless you're in the garden.
Beer selection excellant

of course there's gonna be scruffy punters, it's a wetherspoons - and a great one at that!
brummybeerboy - 17 Mar 2005 00:55
Too smoky, hard to breathe or see. Always packed no seats available. Could do with revamping due to scruffy punters.

Excellant Wetherspoons pub.
The beers are always in superb condition and the food's not too bad. It's mainly out of the freezer, into the microwave and serve, but the specials are good.
