Further to my visit of 22nd February 2016, I popped in again today.
They had 4 craft beers on tap, 2 real ales on pump and 2 real ciders in bag in box.
The staff are friendly and there is a supply of USB cables to charge your phone
There are two pool tables should you fancy a game.
They do food, mostly burgers and suchlike, until 9pm I think.
Can't complain.

Another great pub that appears to have got everything right.
Something for everyone - decent, cheap food. Great beers - the bombardier Burnt Gold was superb - and sports room/pool table.
Busy but well staffed. A great experience.

The Bristol Pear had a refurbishment and reopened in August 2015.
It now has three cask ales on pump and 5 craft beers on tap, together with 2 real ciders in a bag in box type situation, at any given time.
It has a young clientele.
It also has become quite food oriented between 7pm-8pm
On Thursdays all cask ales and craft beers are £3 a pint.
On my visit I had a stout, which was very enjoyable and a 'Hogfather' cider which hit the spot.

Busy enough pub with a mix of people, only drawback for me is no beer on pump, had Star which was ok as a fallback. I don't give more than 6 for pubs with no cask beer unless there are exceptional circumstances (e.g. specialising in foreign bottled beers) but there aren't really here.

went in on a late saturday afternoon only had keg beer which was john smiths so i had a quick half of fosters and left.the pub look dark at the back of the pub and a few locals in the pub.would not go again

The music is always too loud (although commandeering the juke box is good fun) and the beer on tap is sometimes bad but it's better than most other pubs in Selly Oak. No ale on tap, the usual selection of lagers but plenty of cocktails and good prices. The food's good too. The upstairs bar hosts band nights and such. Probably the second-best pub in Selly Oak (after the Country Girl).

This pub is quite nice. Friendly, attentive staff and the food is good too. One major negative though. In winter it is absolutely freezing and a few times I've chosen not to go purely for this reason. Also, it does seem to cater for mostly students. Would be nice if they could entice an older crowd but all in all a nice little drinking place.

part of the "scream" chain of student type pubs,no handpumps at all so opted for pint of Guinness(2.85)* the service was quick though and the barmaid friendly.busy for a Sunday afternoon mind football was on the big screen,ok but would divert to goose if you want good beer!6/10 *the chain offers a "yellow card" that only costs a quid and you get discounted drinks by showing it

Refurbished Pub near the station. Decent beer from memory (was here in October), but I have to say the decor has a 'rustic' feel. They seem to be refitting many of the student pubs up like this these days.......wooden floors etc . Are they trying too much to be 'authentic'?
Other than that it was busy on a saturday, wih students, as you would imagine, and the atmosphere was quite friendly. Bottled beer was a bit poncy and overpriced. Didn't try the cask Guiness , but was told it tasted ok.

This pub usually is quite welcoming and a lot less crowded than the barrels, was in her last on sunday, the lager is flat like the barrels so some consistency. Smallest pool cue in the world(not a certified fact)...pub ruined for me by the fact I watched England lose to Portugual her last summer.

after the rather hit and miss service at the bar, where choice of drinks is very limited. you will find the seating is disjointed and irregular, not really conducive to groups larger than 3. food is below par for the area and the pool tables do not have enough room surrounding them. music selection is good however and mirrors the student population that makes up the majority of patrons. it has a strange, almost snobby atmosphere where the drinkers are seemingly in competition to be the 'coolest' there. whilst not aggressive it does not lend itself to a comfortable drinking environ

Very poor customer service, Extremely poor standard of food, and prices which have risen considerably over the last year. Would not reccomend unless you are a student willing to put up with the crap service and poor food that the bristol pear offers. I would suggest walking down the other end of selly oak and going into the identical but slightly more superior gun barrells which seems to be managed better and has more staff at the bar.

Great now its been done up - no longer so yellow! Staff really nice and friendly, great range of good cold beer. Food Ok but not the best. recommend for a night out.

I find it very difficult to say anything about Scream pubs...they are all so similar and so mediocre.

really nice ambience, and not as crowded as the other pubs in the area.
