A Saturday in Wigan for football and I have 5 pubs on my list to visit which all appear in the 2015 GBG.
Off the train from London at 10.30am and I head straight for this large Wetherspoons pub and lodge on the outskirts of town.
A brisk walk and I'm in and sat down with a pint before 11am. A fair few people in with the majority tucking into breakfasts'.
Quick service from the chatty barmaid as she pours me a pint of Acorn Brewery Drop Kick @ 4.0% from the 2 banks of 5 hand pumps across the bars.
With a proposed National Front march in town the other 'spoons is closed until later so it appears more people are arriving here for their food and drink.
A very modern looking interior with lots of light wooden panelling and light coloured carpet.
I stay for an hour and as the pub fills up it takes on a nice atmosphere.
The Brocket is one of the nicer 'spoons I've been in recently.

went in a few weeks ago had 2 pints busy because of world cup game

Stopped going in this pub, when the last manager was there, everything seemed to go down hill. Reluctantly went back in again recently and what a change. Former glory seems to have been restored, the service was both quick and friendly, the new manager (who used to work there a few years ago) is like a breath of fresh air around the place. She has certainly got the place buzzing again and will defiantly return again to sample the great range of ales and the fine food. Cheers

Fairly large Wetherspoons in the North of Wigan. The bar is very long. Be careful to check for beers at either end of the bar, as there were a couple of different ones at one end. Most people were sat to the right as we entered, but seating spreads round to the left of the entrance too. Service was friendly. Beers were Three B's Doff Cocker, Thwaites Wainwright, Greene King Abbot Ale & Ruddles Best, George Wright Longboat, Allgates Harmonie & Hawkshead Lakeland Gold. Ciders were Westons Cider Twist Raspberry & Old Rosie. Not a bad choice in this end of town. The pub also has accommodation.

Stayed in the hotel (good) - beer range and quality remain very good, even if the Wentworth beers not quite as good as I remember. Staff as friendly as I've met anywhere.

wetherspoons pub - had barnsley gold on my recent visit - this pubs always seems to be popular and well run behinf the bar. clean smart with a real ale corner too
|
Very friendly, from arriving at the hotel reception to the young lady who made sure I was enjoying my breakfast. Couldn't fault the room, certainly can't fault the price. Three guest ales from Hawkshead and Batemans topped off a fabulous stay. Recommended.

Agree with other posts it's a clean friendly and welcoming spoons. We were travelling back down from Liverpool and knackered so were last minuted to the Brocket Hotel - 48 for the night, comfy well equipped room, with a bath. And to my eternal delight we could go for a curry and pint downstairs and then come back to bed! Dream stuff. The pub itself was rammed as it was a bank holiday but we were served promptly and the hotel is detached enough not to be too noise polluted. After a decent kip it was breakfast and for a few quid each you can't get much better.

Would recommend this pub to all. Hotel is lovely with comfy beds and friendly reception staff. Food is great value for money, really tasty and the service was excellent. All the staff we came into contact with were friendly and efficient(no long queues here even on a busy Saturday).Lovely atmosphere well worth a visit!!!

Fantastic pub with friendly service from the bar staff. Cheap drinks and quick tasty food. The lodge is clean and comfy I'd recommend to anyone.

Busy pub, visited on Saturday. Great range of ales, and smiley staff. Waited a while for food, but was not expensive.
|
Great family pub, good atmosphere and friendly bar staff

Beer has become far less varied in the last few months, even for a Wetherspoons. Also, the staff never turn the clips round when the beer has gone off, which is often! Probably a safe bet for at least one real ale, but the quality is variable. Loads of better pubs in Wigan.

A posh Wetherspoons! Unique!

This place is great, a JD wetherspoon Lodge, hotel upstairs clean, tidy and very smart. Pub downstairs is massive, large bar and lots of different areas. Great food although u sometimes have to wait a while, cheap drinks and its well out of town so none of your usual chavvy clientele. Make a weekend out of it, come and stay in Wigan!
