Inside the place is uninspiring, however it does have a reasonable courtyard which we did enjoy. Bridgwater has some pretty awful pubs and this one was slightly better than some of the others.
7/10

Reasonable enough pint of Hobgoblin to be quaffed here, friendly service, 7/10

Might be a good idea if writers to this site just commented about the pub itself, rather than others which have their own page. I was told by two people yesterday that Cobblestones is worth a visit, and will be investigating soon. In a town like Bridgwater, any half-decent pub is worth trying.

I care Iain40; living in Bridgwater, I have no pub I can just walk to when I fancy a decent pint and a chat. I have to cycle to the Halfway, which means dicing with death on the Westonzoyland Road. So to me, the distance is quite significant. It's always worth the effort though!

Dunwear/Bridgewater - Schmozzle/shnozzle - all still the same backside of the universe. The Halfway is close to Bridgwater and serves a decent pint. Who cares if it's in or out of the official boundaries of Bilgewater? Sometimes the George in Middlezoy has a decent pint, but it generally suffers from a lack of pipe cleaning.

fisher40, "for yor info" I'm a regular at the Halfway. Trouble is, it's not in Bridgwater but Dunwear. You may have realised this if you had a little LoCal knowledge yourself.

Actually for your info this is not the only real ale pub in bridgwater. The Halfway Inn along the Westonzoyland Road is a real ale/Somerset cider pub (also does great food) and it is also a member of Camra plus a member of the Camra LoCal - that is confirmed by Camra that it sells ale from breweries within a 30 mile radius of the pub!

I remember when this pub was done up in "yuppie" style in 1988 - and thats about where the investment in this place ends.... It could do with a good lick of paint and a bit of polish and it would be a really nice pub. Trouble is, it hasnt and it appears that in 19 years, noone will. A shame.

It's an ok spot to sit and read the paper, they do have different ales on but seem to be stuck with several barrels of Brains SA (Welsh cooking beer) for which they charge 2.60! However, this is the only other pub in Bridgwater serving real ale (if you don't count the Wethersoons dive). Come on Somerset CAMRA, where real ale's concerned this town's dying on its arse!

Good clear if you like to smoke the strong stuff and sit in filth.....I personally like to stay well clear of this hovel!!!
