CLOSED

Well the food may be getting better shortly. The Cock and Camel is now CLOSED, and gutted. Rumour has it that Jamie Oliver is opening some kind of bistro in its place, although George Street would be a strange choice. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

Went here brunch. Bombardier ordered at the bar and sat down to wait. Orange juice arrived for wife and then i was told the Bombardier was off. So i was given Young's. After tasting this i discovered it resembled vinegar so i returned it to the bar. One bar man tasted it and agreed. The second also agreed and then noticed i shouldn't have been served as it was 10:45am. I was given a refund and a free cup of tea to go with my breakfast. The tea arrived at the table. Sporting a new look short hair on the saucer. (God my day was going from bad to worse, all this after finding the Slug and Lettuce closed further down the road.) 10 minutes later my food arrived. My baked beans looked old and reheated several times. This i didn't mind so much, as i had asked for no baked beans! I took my plate to the bar and pointed this mistake out. I then asked for a refund and watched my wife swim in the oil that her breakfast omelette was soaked in. I'm sure the food passes if you are drunk late at night. Don't eat here. You have been warned.

Just been there for lunch, in summary it's overpriced, the food took ages to arrive and when it did arrive it tasted awful. For eight quid I would not have expected my dried up plate of pasta to taste like plastic. Also it's dingy and left me feeling like I couldn't wait to leave. Really awful.

Very smokey, quite dirty and the carpet is a health hazard. The service is very slow, and when you do get served only half of the beers are available.

Arrived Oxford 22:30 in need of a pint, by 22:35 BITE had told me this pub was near my hotel and had good beer but tends to be full of an 18-25 crowd on a Friday. My pint of Young's Special was good, well-kept and poured to a full measure. Some sofa seating was available and was comfortable. The rest of the customers were mostly boisterous 18-25s, but not threatening chavs, merely having a good time. 2 bouncers on the door were going to keep any problems away. The music was loud to match the customers, but not overly intrusive. Nothing wrong with the pub that -20dB wouldn't cure. I'd go back for a pint outside Friday/Saturday evening, or even then if I remembered to bring earplugs.

Sorry I meant the Goose at Gloucetser Green not the Gloucester...

Pretty good bet for George St, tho avoid on Fri/Sat night. A good place for mid week, although not as good an atmospehere or choice of beers compared to the Kings Arms (Also a Youngs pub). But certainly better than the Gloucester round the corner.

Hardly a posers bar, a wide ranging clientele in the day and a warm atmosphere at night.

I had an excellent time at the Cock and camel.. the food is fabulous, fresh and well-presented. Compliments to the chef! The beer was cold and crisp, and the staff were friendly and knowledgeable. I'd recommend a visit!!

Very much a posers bar, theres always lots of yuppies and 'up and coming' folk in here hee-hawing over their Veuve Cliquot. It's probably the best thing to drink in here though as everything that comes out the taps is piss.

Another wildly expensive place. Go the the Gloucester Arms instead - it has a far better clientele.

Very typical of the venues on George St but I do rather like it. I think its food could be better for the price, however.
