On my latest visit, I noticed that the area near the bar now has small circular high tables and stools, rather than the normal seating. Also noticed that the two sets of (5) handpumps had exactly the same beers on – so one of them was obviously fake. And the number of screaming kids was particularly high – unfortunately it turned out that the worst offender was with the manageress !

Wetherspoons branch in the centre of town. It was an old bank and you can still see the vault. The ale selection was disappointing for a 'spoons - Kelham Island Pale Rider, Slaters Western American Pale Ale, Green King George & The Flagon & Abbot & Ruddles Best & Beartown St George's Bear. Cider was Black Dragon. Seemed to doing a good Sunday morning trade during my visit. The noisy coffee machine needs fixing!

This is a Wetherspoons, so you know what it’s like already ! Not the best branch, but not the worst either. On my first couple of visits I thought it was small and cosy with thick stone walls – then I discovered a newer area at the back ! They usually have a reasonable range of ales. Last time I was there I had the Quantock Plastered Pheasant, which was nice. Have to report though that my Mexican Burger could have done with more chillis !

Started off here on my recent trip to Congleton, a spoons like any other, although the service was dire even by the usual standards of this chain.
When the surly creature behind the bar eventually served me, i opted for a blonde ale from Wincle, tasty enough and priced at 1.99, so no complaints there. The previous reviewer mentions the attractive exterior and i fully agree, sadly the positives end there i'm afraid!

a lovely historic exterior attractive to the eye makes one quite anticipate something amazing inside however this was not quite the case,the place is rather run down and tired looking but on the other hand the service was quick and the pint of festival ale i quaffed was just �1.80 a pint, a whole 65pence cheaper than my local spoons in bristol,7/10

Come on, guys. The 4 of you have given this pub a rating higher than the top-rated establishment on the nationwide BITE list. If it's so good, tell us something about it. I'm not in Congleton very often, so I need to know these things if I'm not going to waste my valuable time.
