With connections back to the North Eastern Railway's arrival in the town in the 19th Century, this fine building is now to be a Zizzi Restaurant - just what Harrogate is short of, yet another chain Italian food joint. The destruction of probably the last traditional pub in the town centre and part of Harrogate's history sacrificed by tasteless businessmen with an eye only for money! R.I.P.

Closed down, being converted into an Italian themed family restaurant.

On of those pubs with quite a few hand pumps at the bar, all with the labels turned round. Only beers available appeared to be the house bitter and lager plus the Guinness (which was reasonably good). Lethargic staff, comfy sofas, Sky TV, though not many customers for a Saturday.

With half an hour to kill, popped in here to see the latest episode in the destruction of what used to be the North Eastern. Quite shocked to find that at 8pm on a Friday there was hardly anyone in. Apart from Black Sheep they had Copper Dragon Best Bitter. Fearing the beer might have been sat in the pipes all day, the landlord assured me that it had been used a few minutes before, then going on to explain his enthusiasm for good beer. The pint was indeed spot on, positively top class and we told him so on our way out. I just hope this guy can turn the pub's fortunes around - alas the few inhabitants we saw on the pool table reminded me of people who can scupper someone's best intentions. Anyway, best of luck!!

Now reopened with smart modern dcor, aimed at sophisticated under 30s I guess . Usual sort of keg range plus unexpectedly good Taylors Landlord and Golden Best. There are the usual TVs and constant music but the comfortable seating and muted brown and grey tones of the decoration make it a pleasant enough place. Some of the original North Eastern Railway Hotel details still show through the constant redecoration and rebranding of recent years, especially visible in the ceiling and window mouldings. Not quite full with its target audience when I visited early Saturday night with a few middle aged couples and the odd solitary drinker as well as the bright young things. Personally I would avoid the disgusting gents unless having a very quick visit or you are a conference goer requiring the phone number of a prostitute.

Pub has indeed closed and is up for let. Many of the fixtures and fittings have been removed.

This pub had a "Sorry closed today" sign up on Saturday 3rd January. Claims it's closed for "essential repair work", it looked a little more serious than that to me.

Large corner pub with 2 distinct drinking areas, one with large leather chairs and sofas. Has only ever had one real ale on whenever we've been in but it may have more at busy times. Has live music on regularly. Handy for a last one before catching the train as it's facing the station.

Now called the Harlow Gata, this pub has Sky TV with big screens and serves Taylors Landlord. Comfy chairs.
