Nice garden/patio area that is well kept. Very friendly manager and duty manager who was working on the day of our visit. Have been before and the young girls were stroppy and robotic in their approach. We ate here, I know its cheap food but the kitchen assistant over cooked everything to the point where it was inedible. Large selection of real ales , but as it was warm I opted for lager which was excellent (Tuborg) . Toilets clean as was the rest of the pub , despite being quite busy.

A typical 'Spoons in many ways. However the service this afternoon was very fast and friendly.

First time I had been in the Elms for about 18 months and I quite like it. Good selection of beer at cheap prices. It was a warm evening so sat outside in a garden that in is on a main road, which is a bit of draw back.
Then moved inside, not crowded for a Saturday and was served immediately each time. Surrounding are fine, so will probably return again soon.

Poped in last Saturday Morning (17/5) for my first visit to this JDW pub. Had to wait about 10 minutes to get served as only two staff on doing everything from taking orders serving drinks and waiting on tables. Don't get me wrong this could be a great place but this is time for Tim Martin to spend some of the 4M (as per latest JDW News) and get some staff in here. Looks like its always been like this as a review going back to Aug 2006 suggested more staff

i had my first visit here the other day cause me mate has moved in just round the corner and hes been on about this place so went n had a look . a nice large patio come smoking area , with heaters in the umberllas that actually work , quite a spacious pub , we went in around 4pm and there was a few people in . the beer , well i only had fosters , but this was a nice drop , me mate had a ale , i cant remember which one but i had a drop and it was quite nice , tasted well kept , the staff were friendly and knew their stuff about the beer . will have to say i think i might be going to leigh a bit more often now i know this pub is ok , the downside was the toilet stunk but all in all not the best spoons ive been in , in the top 3 though , but no where near the worst

Large beer patio and decent cheap beer as always, 8/10

Am a regular at this pub, and have noticed that the standard of clientelle has dropped considerably over the past couple of months but its a wetherspoons so what do you expect. The managers work their hands to the bone they just need more of them, and they have some good staff but some shockers. drinks taste good, but have to wait too long for a drink.

awful service, until recently, the beer was awful too, someone must have thought to clean the pipes, I had a pint of Spitfire the other night and it was awesome. Typical Wetherspoons, could do with more staff. Overall, Okay night out if you want it cheap.

Sprawling old pub, cheap but rather cheerless. Not quite as bad as I thought it'd be though. As others have suggested, more staff would improve it.

I would like to say that Andy your supervisor in the Elms is a great guy. Works hard, is very polite and takes all the abuse and is never rude back which must be hard. The service is very slow but then that is no ones fault. Maybe more staff are required especially on Steak nights. But hats off to Andy he should be rewarded in some way as he an asset to the food side of the pub. He does smooth a lot of the mistakes over and is run ragged. More staff I say. There never seems to be anyone to clean up the tables and glasses.
yours sincerely edwina A regular steak nighter.

Cheap beer its only atribute - waiting time at the bar can exceed 20mins.......... but it is cheap!

The beer is OK here, but that's it.
On one occasion (admittedly, this was 2001), I waited over an hour for a boil-in-the-bag curry. And then, they delivered a chicken salad!! And unless things have improved, you actually have to tell the staff to clear tables, otherwise dirty plates and glasses stay there all day. I kid not.
Give this place a miss. Leigh has decent boozers in abundence.

A FUNERAL WOULD BE MORE ENTERTAINING THAN GOING IN HERE

Some days are good. Some days are bad.Today was a good day. Then again my dear, tomorrow is another day.

7 out of 10 - what's your name? Stevie Wonder?
This is not a flagship JDW establishment. The Elms was closed for years and with good reason. It's a bit 'Deliverence' with locals and bar staff exchanging witty banter, to the detriment of other pub users. Dont be fooled because it's in Leigh either.

Another JD Wetherspoon... Been there a few times recently and it seemed to be pretty smoky to me. Alright, but not really my cup of char. Didn't make me want to go there again, put it that way.
