Oakford Social Club, Readingback to pub details please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.
Popped in for a couple yesterday lunchtime as the 3 Guineas seemed to be having a Marston's festival! 3 beers on from XT, Downtown and Adnams. The Adnams Topaz Gold was superb but, at 3.70, it had to be to tempt me into a second pint.
Service was good - pub was pretty busy with loads of food (mainly burgers) being served.
Worth popping into but the prices are pretty steep!

Not much of a pub in the traditional sense, however quite comfortable. Doom Bar very average and over priced.

This, of course, is not a social club in the accepted sense but it is a large pub near the station which offers real ale, food and music. The photo must be old as the name changed some time ago. Usually two ever-changing cask beers from 3 handpumps (Mordue and Cains when I last visited). It's generally OK but as it is a venue style bar in the evenings the atmosphere and noise level will change. Not bad for a lunchtime pint - and you can browse through the daily papers as well. Very handy for the station; buses and town centre.

For some reason i'd not ventured into this place before, and after reading mainly positive reviews of it i thought i'd pop in with the missus and have a look, well, it's nice inside if slightly dark, lots of sofas if lacking in tables slightly, and the place was quite busy with a nice mix of the after work crowd and people just in for a few beers, but we ended up leaving quite quickly, unfortunately the service was very slow, now it was a bit busy but not overly so, only around 10 people at the bar if that, but having 2 staff on who seemed to operate very slowly and 2 other people just wandering around behind the bar chatting and eating crisps just seemed to annoy a few people, after almost 10 mins i gave up, i hope it's just a one off and a bad moment to come in so i'll not give it a rating yet, anyway, from what we saw the food looked good and the menu was nice, it seems like a decent place to have a few beers, just shame about the service when we were in.

Looks like the pub has now closed - soon to be becoming an entertainment venue (not sure what type) called Vivid

Need to amend my review from earlier; I have just worked out how they can offer the drinks so cheaply - they turn off the friggin heating! Upon leaving our drinking bud informed us 'I am going outside and may be some time but at least it'll be warmer'.

Seen better but lets face it in Reading you can do a hell of a lot worse. Cheap plonk on weekdays and pretty good deals at the weekends. Not as lively as it used to be and the toilets are a bit of a hike but all things considered not too bad. Slight chav element seeping in what with the cheap drinks on offer and also getting the old fossils from the weatherspoons doing a turn but you can't have everything.
