The Lock Keeper is a swanky, canal-side pub. Only two ales available but one was Kelham Island 'Pale Rider' which was well kept. Very few customers considering Chester Races was on but then it did look like more of a restaurant than a pub. Sat outside in the sunshine and watched the boats go by.

Now called The Lock Keeper.

The food was poor, the beer wasnt good, the "music" ensured no one sat inside, the service was grim. Wouldnt go back again.

The Frog & Nightingale is a great venue! Canal side, pool room, cosey, friendly staff, top quality meals in the day & brilliant night life! If your ever in chester then check this place out!
If your already a local to this pub & you like bands / djs then keep your eyes open for 'mash' over the coming months :)

Once again Out of the Blue rocked the Frog, they are really the best band on the circuit. Must try and catch another venue.

possibly the worst meal i have ever had the misfortune to have was in this pub. We went for the 2 for 10 offer so weren't expecting amazing food but what we received was absolutely dire, 2 bland and uninteresting cheese burgers which arrived without the bacon we had requested, a watery chilli and mushroom stroganoff that could not even be described as food - i managed 1 mouthful of this greasy, gritty dirge and could eat no more - appalling!! I don't how food could be made so bad?

Day visitor to Chester. Food generous & good quality and at very reasonable price during day. Pub lacks atmosphere and very dull interior during day time may be better in evening when lighting switched on. Seems to concentrate on evening clientell ( if that's how you spell it)pity as its location & food could boost the pub during day if atmosphere better

Great atmosphere, great food and superb venue for bands. Catch 'Out of the Blue' if you get a chance, must be one of the best bands on the northern circuit!!!!

Yup, great for food (2 for10, sometimes 2 for 5, standard steak etc. others available), excellent for music with a different sound every night, no punk or reggae though...maybe that is a failing of the community and not Tony who runs a good bar...good in the sun as it has an outside area. Close to town, Tesco is close enough to make that half bottle of Vod a viable option. Also as it is by canal a sly rifter is only a short stroll away.

This is a great pub for live music, and it really doesnt matter what kind of music you like theres something for everyone!!!
Friday night is jazz with a live jazz band and saturday is band night!!! a vast array of different styles and bands playing!! Check out Dusk and MudSlide! Both awesome bands

Nicely refurbished pub to a very high standard, in a lovely location on the canalside.
Wide variety of beers and wines and an excellent menu ranging from a la carte to delicious but simple filled baguettes.
Just off the city centre, a great place to meet, eat and drink.
This pub is also an up and coming venue for live music.
