Another large open plan drinking establishment typical of the brand although at least it was open after 10 whereas most of the surrounding pubs had shut. Ale was pretty good though and cheap (@ 2.29) but I wouldn't fancy being there when it's busy.

Large Wetherspoons pub split over a couple of floors and just opposite the Millenium Stadium. It was fairly busy on our Saturday morning visit. The interior is typical Spoons open plan. Beers on were Brecon Orange Beacons, Celt Bleddyn 1075, Wharfebank Wispa IPA, Mordue Belma Red, Greene King Abbot & Ruddles Best. Cider was Gwynt y Ddraig Ancient Warrior, Celtic Warrior & Haymaker & Westons Cider Twist Perry, along with their Country Perry. Surprised by the amount of ciders. As the previous review suggests, this must be a permanent feature. But no complaints from me.

Not much more you can say about this place - its a Wetherspoons with all that entails. Poor range of beer on our visit (more draught cider than ale); usual lack of bar staff but cheap prices for beer and food. Handy for city centre and the stadium etc.

One of the better Wetherspoons in Cardiff. Plenty of space and always a grand selection of ales. Can get rather busy at times, especially in its location opposite the Milennium Stadium.
|
Large Spoons located close to Millenium Stadium and Castle. As previous comments have said, beer of good quality. If you like real ale then you won't be disappointed.
|
Camra has recognised the quality of ale by granting the Gatekeeper a listing in Good Beer Giude 2010.

Very enthusiastic manager who knows and loves his real ale.Asuccessful St Davids festival this week with an interesting selection from microbrewers as well as Brains. Most pleasing!
|
Beer festival going very well.Excellent choice every day.all well kept.Well done!
|
special Wednesday offer no longer applies but beer still very good.
|
Easily the best Wetherspoons in Cardiff.Very pleasant and efficient staff and a high level of comfort.Real ales well kept.Try Wednesday when all ales are 1.69 apint and there is usually an intersesting and well kept selection.

Had Rhymney Export and Dark on(both excellent) along with 2 from Bullmastiff,Caledonian Lager,Robinsons Olympic Gold,Coach House Inkeepers and the normal other welsh Spoons standards(SA,Best,Evan Evans). After the disappointment of the Mochen Du and the Cayo this was a welcome surprise and definitely top of the 3 visited that day. The manager and staff were friendly and the aircon worked. Enough said.

Only a few minutes walk from the Prince of Wales, a giant Wetherspoons pub, you have the Gatekeeper, a giant Wetherspoons pub. As I have said elsewhere, the Cardiff Wetherspoons do seem to be better than the national average. As such, this place is quite acceptable, and usually serves pretty well kept beer. But having said that, there are far more interesting pubs than this to visit in the city centre.

Big and rather soul-less but perfectly OK as long as you keep your wits about you and leave before it gets silly. Usual Wetherspoon's value. Bar staff are generally good considering what they have to put up with.
|
Popped in during the England v Sweden World Cup match last week, which was showing on the television. Pub was pretty quiet, selection of local ales was good; I tried the Evan Evans and was well impressed with it.

This is an absolutely enormous pub - Still a Wetherspoons though, so it just means you can cram in more alkies and deadbeats. Looks like a warzone after a certain time on a Friday night..
