In on Monday night just gone, pretty lively, but fairly quick service. Disapointing to see one ale on with two off, but at least it was in good condition. Has a studently feel to it, and a good heating outside for the smokers.

A good sized pub divided in to several different areas, although they all lead in to one another. Its on a few different levels and has a good selection of seating with a few leather sofas, round bar tables and cosy alcoves. Theres old wooden flooring throughout and the walls are a mixture of exposed brickwork and painted plaster. One wall is plastered in flyers advertising local bands. The lighting was fairly low, and this created a pleasant ambience.
There was an extensive pub grub menu with most of the dishes around the 8/9 mark. We didnt try the food ourselves, but the kitchen seemed to be keeping busy. Unusually for a pub, this was an open plan affair, visible behind the bar. There was also a good choice of wines chalked up on a board above the bar. Service seemed to be quick and efficient.
Beers on tap were Sharps Cornish Coaster and Doom Bar, plus Thornbridge Jaipur. Ciders were Aspalls Suffolk, Addlestones and Gaymers Pear. There was also a good choice of continental lagers on tap.

not bad , if you can put up with young good looking women , and rap music ?, only deux real ales on , gem , doom bar , but that said well kept . not bad , worth a 2nd visit

Very pleasant pub, nice garden and reasonable prices - we paid 5.30 for a pint of Becks and a Doombar.
The food menu looked good, unfortunately I think I chose the wrong thing as the nachos looked as if they had been deep fried and were quite revolting.
The woman behind the bar could have done with a few lessons in customer service - despite being the only person at the bar I waited several minutes to be served as she was too busy talking about her social life.

Comes into its own in the summer thanks to a great beer terrace, over-priced since the refurb though! Also avoid if you're allergic to students

I like this place, although it does quickly fill with dicks on a weekend night, (and i have spotted a fair few under-age's here too. The only place on gloucester road to have Franziskaner on tap. :) I mostly go here for a few pints during the afternoon, which is IMO when the place is at it's best.

I came back on a Friday night and the queue at the bar was three or four deep all the time. It seems they need two bars for this size of pub.

I think the new look is very cool, so much better than the average soulless refurb. Had a fine lunch on the terrace, slightly upmarket food but without the outrageous prices. Oddly the sound from the TV was played outside.

Got ignored by barwoman on arrival,to be fair a managery type bloke spotted her and came to serve me-I asked for a half of Gem,then Miss Ingnoringone decided she wanted to serve and invaded my order and poured a pint instead. And being an amenable chap I said I'll have it-except 3 a pint was the price!!!! For Gem!!! And the quality was only moderate, not close to the Welly up the road.
Ales on the price list were Butcombe and London Pride(2.60),though Pride was only available. Questioned the price of the Gem to be told "yeah thats right". (Roughly translated drink it or piss off in my book).
Besides that the review of nearly 2 years ago below still more or less applies. Won't return and wouldn't recommend to others.

Now no longer "The Goose" - just the Flyer again.
After a makeover - yeah leather sofas, beige walls, bare floors and modern art on the walls (the "gastro pub" look is becoming a cliche) - this has become a decent pub again. Certainly has the best garden on the lower part of Gloucester Road.
Addlestones and Westons Organic for the cider heads. Magners (spit) for those who don't have a clue! :P A wide range of real ales & lagers etc
Also, is it compulsory with these newly spruced up trendy pubs to employ student bar staff who are obviously too cool to bother serving you and find more important things to do like bottling up or chatting to their mates when there are 5 or 6 people waiting?!
If the staff got a kick up the jacksy I'd give this pub an 8.

Emulating Wetherspoons, to be fair the "Goose" chain gave what was the Bristol Flyer a much needed rennovation, and it's not a bad place for a cheap meal and to watch the football. They had a few ales on too. Not the pick of the crop on Gloucester Road but worth counting in on a pub crawl.
