I'd passed the Ginger Goose late on Friday evening. It had bouncers on the door and had a rough appearance. I gave it a miss in favour of the City Vaults. But I was back on Saturday morning. CAMRA's website records this place as having no real ale. But as the previous two reviewers state, they do have Saltaire Blond, which I availed myself of. The window seats are the prime position in this pub. Local blokes were watching the goings on in the street, with Centenary Square just on the other side. The clientele seemed similar to that of a Wetherspoon's. Given I couldn't locate a 'spoons in the city, this may be why. Snooker was on the TVs. Pretty poor pub in all though.

I had a similar experience to RealAleRob. Only Saltaire Blonde on, I tried Kronenbourg at 3.70 which is steep for Bradford. They were offering Caffreys at 1.70 though which is a bit strange. The place itself is just a massive room with TVs, fruit machines and a lot of tables, there is an upstairs bit but I didn''t bother going up there. It''s okay I guess but the place smelt a bit like Subway which was a bit strange at first but we got used to it. Not a place I would rush back to but it''s in a good location so if you get a window seat you would see some interesting things going on outside.

Ventured in today, of the 5 pumps at the bar only a solitary one was clipped, offering Saltaire Blonde. Decided to leave in search of something I haven't had before. A bit disappointing compared to my previous visit.

Ventured in the Ginger Goose on a weekday around lunch time. Yes, it seems very Wetherspoons-esque, but on the upside it is a large pub with plenty of seating and a decent sized bar.
On the real ale front there were 5 hand pumps, offering Naylor's Black & Tan (4.4%), Salamander Golden Salamander (4.5%), Saltaire Blonde, Tetley Cask, and one pump was off. There is a second bank of 5 pumps but these were not in use.
I went for the Black & Tan which cost £2.70 for the pint. The young barman took his time to pour a decent pint. I was served quickly. Quite a few punters in at my lunch time visit, and they didn't all look like the dregs of the earth!
The Black & Tan was a very pleasant pint, technically down as a porter but I believe a mix of bitter and porter recipes. In good condition, no issues with temperature, and very drinkable!

Popped in for a quick one last Sunday as I was walking from Forster Square to Interchange and the place is in this year's GBG. Very Wetherspoon-like but with even more tv screens. The service was quick and friendly, the beer was in good condition and two pounds fifty a pint: it's not really my preferred type of pub but I have no complaints at all and would gladly visit again.

The Ginger Goose has been open in its new form for a while now and thankfully has a good selection of real ales, including ales from local breweries. Its a large comfortable pub right next to the City Park and well worth a visit.

The Lord Clarke has recently reopened as The Ginger Goose.

Sums up all that is wrong with modern Bradford. Was once the wool capital of the world, were they built a fantastic City Hall.
Opposite it we now have this care in the community drop in centre to greet visitors to the City
Needs semtex to improve the place

[NOW THE CLACKS BAR]
|
Could be a nice pub, IF the clientele were half human, which they're sadly not. The bar staff consists of TWO only, though that is not THEIR personal fault obviously...but waiting for a pint takes anything up to half an hour depending on how many scroats and pissed up people who have been there ALL afternoon and evening there are staggering around the bar area. IF you want to lose the will to live, visit the GOOSE bar.....or better still, go somewhere else like we do now!

Dont confuse this goose with the one that laid the golden egg. This goose only lays what it looks like and smells like. Bring a clothes peg.

I have grown to quite like this dump, the ale is even cheaper than 'spoons and pretty fair quality (no longer over cold), just don't look anyone in the eye and try and ignore the fragrance of some of the "bath-on-me-birthday" brigade

Unbelievably unpleasant bar. Bring spare pair of shoes. Location no advantage: there are no nicer bars in the immediate area.
|
tatty modern boozer sort of sub-Wetherspoons style, packed with p*ssheads and football hooligans, toilets always seem to be smashed up to some degree, real ale cheap if way too cold, best bit is upstairs bar with nice view across town hall square, which of course never opens

Pick of the pre club pubs in Bradford. Good size, plenty of choice for beer and lager drinkers alike. Nice decor and average staff.
