I remember this pub in the late 70s. It was a favourite on the Friday/Saturday night circuit before hitting the famous fleapit "Krumbles" just around the corner (commonlyy known as "The Pit.") Almost always a drunken scrap at some point, and everyone on the pull as long as they could still stand up. You never knew where you would end up next morning (sometimes better forgotten.) Anyway, back to the White Lion... it was always a bit more relaxed than the infamous Bears Head a few doors up the road. I wonder, do they still have that jar of pickled eggs on the bar? It had probably already been there for 10 years when I last saw it in 1990. But seriously, a decent pub and no doubt much nicer now than it was then.

Good old fashioned pub serving Speckled Hen and Bombardier bitter. Friendly service, good beer and homely surroundings including beer garden. Great!

Has the bar moved? It looks different.Or is it just that the big old till isnt there.I feel old! I remember when this was the place to go.Not anymore!!

Good pub, beers good. The landlady is friendly although sometimes a little bit moody. Young and old all drink together in somekind of perfect harmony. Good to see an old school pub making an effort and so doing well.

Top pub, cool landlady, bit bigger than POWs so can be a better option if you want to get a seat. Don't frequent as often as I should but well recommended.

One of the few remaining busy old-school pubs left in the town centre. Ran by the moody ex-firkin landlady, this place is always worth dropping in for one. Old-school pubs can occasionally attract old-school scallies though so for keep an eye out for them (they're a dieing breed in Macc). ok during the day too.

I was in this pubs loads of time over Christmas and it must have been one of the best atmospheres in Macc. Good mix of ages and it felt really safe with the landlady controlling everything including the door. Last time I was in here was about 4 years ago. Its improved a 100 times since then - pay it a visit it deserves it.

Friendly enough, dodgy disco at weekends though!

used to be great...what's happened? Service gone downhill, food is now rubbish and landlady just doesn't seem to care.....

It's a great little pub - very frinedly staff. Gets busy at weekends, but you can have a quiet pint midweek
