Much improved in last 6months or so with several local ales now regularly available and 1 pint free after 6 stamps ale card scheme also in place
could do with a lower priced ale >£3 available idealy to break into the spoons territory but having the sport on multiple tvs a clear advantage over the spoons of berkshire

I’d heard only negative things about this pub, “rough” and “chavvy” being two of them. I also visited this place many years ago and was of same opinion when I left. However, I recently went in here on a Wednesday evening to watch a football match. Had originally planned to go to another pub at other end of town but the proximity of this place to the station meant we had to have a look. Admittedly, initial impression was the above but after asking someone where nearest cashpoint was (one in there was broken), I discovered they were a polite and friendly crowd. Is perfect for watching football with the main pull down screen and smaller TV’s scattered around (some will see as a negative). Was good atmosphere, nice bunch of people, and prices not too bad either. I was on Guinness and can’t remember the score regarding real ales. Has dartboard too. Not somewhere you’d go out of your way to visit, but done a job, is on the station’s doorstep and maybe has a reputation that isn’t quite deserved

I echo McRoyal's comments below. They do seem to be making a real effort on the real ales. with 20% discount for CAMRA members & a real ale club card, drink 6 and get the 7th free (not in one go I hasten to add) and they should be applauded for that. My first visit since around 1985 and my expectations were low so I was pleasantly surprised. Very convenient for the train.

The frontage is now dominated by a huge patio/smoking area. This is a large pub with raised area for pool tables and there are at least 5 fruit machines in the bar. Food is served from a typical pub-grub menu but appears to be goood value for money. Three ales were avilable on my last visit - one from Loddon; one from Adnams and one from Brains. Quality was OK (but not outstanding) and the prices were goood - they were even giving a 20% discount to CAMRA members. It is next to the station but looks llike the type of pub where middle-aged men in shorts and foootball shirts congregate so I would imagine it can get a bit loud and boistrous. At least they are offering a range of beer and it is reasonably comfortable. TV screens everywhere reflecting the sports connections.

recently has had brains sa on -bearable if want to catch a bit of the game and a quick pint
|
Recent visit - Karaoke type of pub and Sky sports on TV.
|
Recent visit - Sharps doom bar still only real ale. Disco sort of pub more than anything. Shows rugby. Very average.

The Molly's has it's good and bad points. If you want a quiet pint during the day while watching the cricket or any sport it's great, also if you fancy a couple of pints after work in the sunshine watching the world go by it's good too. But as the evening goes on especially at the weekend things do go a bit school disco! Still it does serve a cheap pint and it has more tv's than most of the other pubs in wokingham put together, which makes it my choice for watching the champions league while playing a game of pool. I haven't tried the food since the management has changed but it used to be awful.

Pub most obvious to the station. Popped in for quick one while waiting for train.. landlord seems baffled I only order a half! Half of doombar it is. Good pub but more of a club late in evenings at weekend. Sky sports on tv - surprise surprise.

youth club.landlord is a kay tel london hard nut.what a to**er.runs off at the first sign of trouble to get his doormen.might send my misses in to sort him out.
|
Worst pub in town. In fact, less pub, more youth club with beer with the inevitable consequences. Lager, lager, lager. The sort of place most of us only visit once. By mistake.
|
Has had a thorough makeover and looks better for it both inside and out, now a bit more friendly for a quiet drink during the day - in fact I'd go as far to say it's quite tasteful. Popped in to see if there was an ale on and was surprised to find that there was, a decent half of a GK beer (Dallaglio's Heroes) at an OK price for Wokingham. Shame the staff were too busy chatting amongst themselves to provide any decent level of service - lets it down. Food was available and there was a big screen with the cricket on (muted in favour of music).
Perhaps now worth a look if you're waiting for a train.

The quality of your experience depends very much on the time you arrive. Before 5pm, it's quite cheerful, if a little crass. Food and beer is cheap, and it seems friendly enough.
After 8pm though, it's all change. Bouncers show up, youths crowd over pool tables, dreadful disco's, fights, trouble and mess. This is the place under 18's go to have drinking competitions and then hit each other.
Good or bad, this is not a 'pub'. It's more like a theme sports bar - awful, loud decor, TV's everywhere you look blaring football or tragic chart music.
If you are older than 21, and don't listen to 50 Cent, I suggest another venue.

Good atmosphere for sports...however die of thirst as you tend have abit wait to be served and even then no apology or acknowledgment. If the staff had better custome service the bar would be ok...
Good for cheap...rubbish food...and youngsters throwing up on a fiday and saturday night.

On Tuesday evening we were working late so broke for dinner at The Molly Millar in Wokingham. Food was good and very cheap. Wells Bombardier was on draught. The pub appears to be aimed at the 18 year-old end of the market; loud music, coffee shop decor, 25 lager keg taps vs 2 real ale pumps. What happened to those wonderful days when the young enthusiasts from CAMRA temporarily halted the decline of real beer provision.

Has had a bit of a clean-up inside and looks better for it, but sadly still doesn't offer anything of interest to a beer drinker, not even in a bottle.
Pop further down the road and over the rail tracks to the Three Brewers on Barkham Road (for some reason not listed on BITE despite me submitting it twice!) for a pub that has a couple of well-kept ales on the go if you are waiting for a train.

For all the moaning people i have always found the place to be very welcoming, and a great atmosphere for sports because that what it is an entertainment pub and not pub in the country side. The food has always been good value for money and no the rare occasion when service hasn't been at it's best the staff always let you know whats going on. It's a great place to meet friends, have a drink and a laugh. The comment that only chav's drink in there is a view a someone very narrow minded.

Popped in here as its the 1st you come to off the train and I was late for the Tri Nations test between SA and NZ. Fair do's it was on all their numerous telly's so enjoyed the game there. No real ale though - so I settled for Guinness which was good.

I have been coming here for a while now with a few mates. Excellent range of ales, lagers and alcopops (not that im that way inclined where alcopops are concerned). Cheap smithys and fosters which go down a treat on a heavy night. Only thing i'd criticise would be the noise. Can't be helped but gets tedious when you're trying to have a conversation! The request disco is really good too. Good night out, recommended.

Up until fairly recently, i had not frequented this sublime establishment with any degree of regularity. Since around September of last year, i decided it was a better option than any of the pubs or bars in my village, which, it has to be said, are all full of old men (with moustaches), and so this is where i now tend to visit for a casual drink in the evening. The staff are friendly, there are a few good offers on drinks and i also find everyone in there to be cultured, happy beings. The dj's mint as well.

Not the greatest place I have ever drunk but also not the worst.
The Molly Millar offers good facilities to watch sport with multiple big screens. They do however favour football and on more that 1 occasion i have found myself watching the last 10 minutes of a boring mid table Premiership clash rather than the opening 10 minutes of a rugby match between England and the likes of Australia.
Pub location is good as it offers drinkers a good meeting/starting point if they choose to venture to the bars and clubs of reading on a Friday and Saturday night
Food and beer are nothing to shout about.

Big, loud with the clientale mainly consisting of chavs and anyone with the iq of an amoeba. Expensive too. Highly NOT recommended.
|
They do music videos here as well. Or comedy videos depending on your opinion. Bit of a chain pub without a chain, not a bad place to get a cheap drink

This is very sporty. More of a bar than a pub i feel. Quite like it. but over strict about people coming in and not buying a drink
|
For sporting events only. Don't bother otherwise, there are so many other pubs in Wokingham.
No cask ale.
|
found this pub to be very rude and not a good atmosphere at all. recommend they get new bar staff!

Well Nikki is quite wrong and right at the same time and obviously had too much to drink as the three names refer to two different pubs! ;-)
Hope and Anchor - excellent real ales with a nice selection, warm welcome, good food and often has light hearted and enjoyable events.
Molly Millars (was called Big Hand Mo's) by contrast is a "sports bar" with brash big screen Sky TV, loud pool tables and lager by the gallons, and young girls in short skirts.
Take your pick...
