What a shocker, this JDW has closed! Sign outside thanking everyone for their custom...gobsmacked! Hope this isn`t indicative that the brands bubble has burst?

Big Wetherspoons, beer range good if not that large. Ciders from behind the bar as well.

Fairly big Spoons with a very pleasant interior. Quiet on the Tuesday I called in for the Steak Night. Beer fine.

ok spoons real ale quality good but on a weekend there is never enough bar staff on and they have put loads of tables n chairs right by the bar which is crazy on the weekends just not enough room by the bar area.

Bog standard Witherspoons in the Town Centre with a good range of well kept real ales as you would expect. However the young trendy barmaids only seemed interested in serving young men and preening themselves. One poor old man stood at the bar being ignored for so long that I felt compelled to ask someone to serve him. Shame as this spoiled the visit.

I hate the bar you have to have great balance about 10 steps down to bar, if you order coffee you are in trouble get a tray best bet sit below steps no problem, old men and people who are having the day out from the mrs, no carpark people smoke inside this pub or before they are outside, skanks!!!

Went in this pub back in October, worst spoons pub I have ever been in. the beer was awful but the attitude of staff absolutely stunk. I had an all day breakfast in there.i only asked if i could have an extra mushroom instead of tomato.the response i got was "no the cook is not in the best of moods". The food was overcooked and naff standard .Sadlers ale was also crap, worst ale I had drank in 2009.

i will take some persuasion to return to the same place.

Very imposing building, but not one of 'spoons best theatre conversions as the area nearest the door is very dark, and then you get a rather sudden drop down at the bar end. Otherwise it is much the usual offering, with cheap food and a reasonable selection of real ale with five guest beers in addition to the usual suspects from the eight handpumps. My pint of Elgoods Black Dog was fine and didn't cost any more than Ruddles with the 'curry night' deal so I was happy enough.

We have been here before but left due to lack of ale choice, but managed to find 5 guests on this time as the Walsall beer festival was on round the corner, so plenty of real ale drinkers were in town. I enjoyed Orkney Red Macgregor and Titanic Iron Curtain.

What really impressed me here was that the Lees beer I wanted went off, and they whipped the pumpclip straight off. The beer on the next pump as available soon was put on. They were clearing the done line and getting the next beer ready so they could keep 5 guests on.

What a refreshing change.

Interestiing pub, especially upstairs - good service on a Saturday afternoon/evening

Typical Wetherspoons- so cheap food and drink. Beer variable, but not too bad overall.

On a busy night the bar gets very busy, and yes, the bar staff often serve their mates first.

The building is lovely and it can be an OK pub at the right time.

If a pub serves cheap beers, food and 1 spirit shots it is bound to attract large amounts of drinkers, some of which will be students, some chavs, some pensioners and even people like me! You get exactly what is says on the weatherspoons tin - with a few real ales and a really great former theatre building. It does have problems with bar queues and tables etc - but thats what you pay for (or don't as the case may be). I go rarely.

I've visited this place a few times now and I'm still unsure on my opinions of it. Firstly it is full of people on the dole and 90% of the clientle are chavs who stare at you as you walk by, but if your like myself and don't let it bother you, you can enjoy yourself in here. The place really hasnt got alot going for it, its an impressive building which is let down by its decor and layout. There are tables blonked (techical term) everywhere and most of the time it looks like a socail club which you'd find in the middle of a housing estate. It appears that no thought has been put into the layout, the bar is just as bad and really needs ripping out and re-building simple as. I've found the beer quality to be pretty good and the staff, when i've been, are pretty good at contolling the customer levels at the bar. So to finish when I've been here I've never thought about leaving any sooner than I would do but it really does need a strong manager here to do abit of socail clensing and gets some order with the tables and bar.

Service is shite..........students behind bar serving their fellow students before regulars, blatantly and taking their time over doing it.
They only work at one pace............slow.
Avoid at weekends the queue to get served is sometimes four deep at the bar.

Seems to be liked by the chavs again here.

Really good Wetherspoons! Good atmosphere (especially upstairs), interesting architecture (old cinema) and generally a good place to hang out.
berrrnsbananafarm - 7 Apr 2005 19:21
Definitely the worst Weatherspoons I have been in. Dark, dingy and at lunch time usually full of the people who used to be found on the benches outside Tesco drinking Special Brew and sherry. Slow bar service and often only one guest ale on.
