Visited while staying at the Thistle Hotel. A better than average Spoons, had a few handpumps on, tried 4 different over the evening, all were well kept and delicious. Worth a visit if in the vicinity.

Called in just before train time home. Nice old building with the usual Wetherpsoon's offers. Had a pint of Yeovil Star Gazer and Butcombe Bitter (West Country beers in Middlesbrough - how local is that?) They were OK and at 1.99 a pint I wasn't complaining. Very handy for the station (I would suggest you avoid the pubs right outside the station entrance)

Hadn't been in for yonks, went in Saturday dinnertime, usual off the shelf Spoons clientele, unusual barstaff, there were five of them behind the bar! First pint was a Burton's Stout, which was very nice followed by a pint of Black Summit (an India Black Ale) from The Ilkley Brewery. Magnificent! Next was an Exmoor Gold and then another Black Summit. A decent array of ales were on offer, can only remember Ruddles, with the usual 'Coming Soon' adverts on about 3 or 4 pumps. Enjoyable couple of pints, just wish a few other pubs in this area would do more real ale.

Probably one of the better pubs in Middlesbrough town centre. Handy for The Riverside providing the ususal fare expected from a Wetherspoons pub.

One of the better wetherspoons ive been in. five different real ales to choose from not from the usual wetherspoons portfolio. Went there on a boro match day and it was busy but not silly full. Not many real ale pubs in the town nowadays making this one a must

Not bad standard Weatherspoons pub.there are worse places in Middlesbrough!!!
Service quite quick and overall fairly pleasant atmosphere

I have spent many hours in this place as the starter pub for a good night out - usually the cornerhouse on a thursday. It has been the case over a number of years that about 1 in 4 pints of real ale would have to go back for being off (in that it would smell a little like sewage). Very poorly kept ale (whether this be keeping ale too long or complete lack of line cleaning), but darn cheap.

For a pub which used to have such an excellent feel about it i now find it hard to muster a good word. the pub had lacked a professional management team for some time now and that is represented with the clientel it now has. This pubs needs a strong manager to lift the motivation of the staff and move out the low lifes that infest it. I have always found the standard of ales poor, if i am lucky enough to have one available on my visits. Although i must praise the standard of the food over the last few months.

Its a wetherspoons, its okay for a few cheap ones unless its full, then it becomes a hassle.
|
cheap, eclectic and a touch chain-flavoured. its cheep, cheerful and the main start-off point for Boro's young locals, students, gay crowd, old locals, hen and stag do's and birthday piss-ups.
well. i did said it was eclectic.
|
its a good place to start before go out on the piss. gets busy early as everyone hits here before they go out because its cheap.
