I recently went for lunch there. The food was good and the IPA was so good I scored it as a "five star rating" (top marks) to CAMRA. For an economy-priced pub this is remarkably good.

Quite souless, freezing pints of Pride, and it takes an age to get served. Don't bother.
|
Why on earth would you ever go for a beer here?
|
Visited this place last night only briefley though as we planned to move on. Had a few drinks and Got served quickly each time. Bar staff friendly and beer affordable.
|
It's an All Bar One
It's in Leicester Square
Need I say more
|
Ended up visiting this place twice last night (don't ask). Both times, I waited around 15 minutes, maybe 20, to get a drink. I know it was busy, but hey - it was only a Wednesday evening in January. Have they never been busy before? The queue - or perhaps the word is 'melee' - for drinks was up to 40 or 50 people at one point. You got to ask the question here: what's the point from All Bar One's point of view, of having all these people in their bar, thirsty and economically inactive, i.e. not paying for a drink and not getting one either? I'd never visit this place out of choice again.

Don't bother. The beer is terribly kept (more often than not, unavailable). There are many good pubs within about 300 yards of this one. I can't imagine why anyone goes there.

Rubbish

Hmm, b5bay. Is your "very similar environment" 48 leicester square, by any chance?
anonymous - 9 Sep 2007 00:23 |
Very surprised at some of the comments made - i had a very pleasant visit, the food and drinks were reasonably priced and served very quickly considering how busy it was (the grilled chicken sandwich is to die for!). I found the staff very friendly and professional - i work in a very similar environment -and felt that overall it is a place i would definately recommend to friends and family.

It's been done up. Non-smoking now, I find it the easiest best place to meet people not from London. Toilets could be better.
|
Its All BAr One. You get what you expect. A manger who does what he's told, staff who don't and ok food and wine. Add to that, its Leicester Square, of course its busy, but they don't need to worry about you, do you know how many tourists go to Leicester Square??

Great selection of wine, great European lagers, decent food. All reasonably priced when compared to any other bar/pub/restaurant in the area. I didn't like the creamflow London Pride (too cold), and the french waiter who served us was surly. Nice music, bright atmosphere and my wife loved the mulled wine, and the manager. Won't be going back! Good for a drink after a Sunday morning dragged round the January sales.
|
Don't even bother, so the wine is chilled and the food ... when it arrives is decent enough ... but the service is slow, staff are divided into two camps ... those running about trying to serve and the three or four that stand at the end of the bar disdainfully observing the masses trying to get served. Leave this place to the foreign tourists and middleaged men in suits from out of town ... wander towards Piccadilly and find one of the smaller pubs in the side streets.

I'll second that the manager is gorgeous. And why do people find it so neccessary to slate chain companies? Good atmosphere, good service, good(ish) music, good drinks and company - all in all a good night.

the manager's not gorgeous (below)... but it's cheap for leicester sq - 2.60 for a pint of amstel. you can do a LOT worse

I think most of you are crazy!! It's Leicester Square, and it's busy for a reason!! The staff are friendly, the wine is chilled, and ok the food is not a gastronomic feast but it's a bar. If you want amazing food go to the Oxo Tower!! It's only overpriced if your used to drinking in some dodgy back street pub that serves WKD for 99p.

All together now...NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!
Awful place that seems to be overrun by pretentious 'suits'.
|
I don't understand people who think All Bar One's are overpriced! Maybe they've just come from the Wetherspoons across the road. Try and find the gorgeous selections of wines in any other bar/supermarket/off-licence. Try and find a bar with such a gorgeous manager!

Food for a chain is okay but once you've been to one you've been to them all
|
My guinness was straightpored, like in ALL other all bar one's. I might be silly, but to me this is essential. At least the barmaid spoke english. Will not bother to go again.
|
Would have to agree with most of the comments - this place is overpriced, too crowded (as a result it can take ages to be served) and is not as good as many of the neighbouring pubs in soho. However, one thing it does have is a good selection of European beers to choose from, some served in very cool glasses.
|
Number One: It's in the middle of tourist overpriced hell Number Two: It's All Bar One Total yuck. Why anyone would chose to go to a place like this more than once is beyond me. The only reason I went was cos I had arranged to meet a group of friends before going on elsewhere, and it was big enough to accommodate us outside. But really, what is the point of these places? I don't know a single person who thinks they are any good.
|
one word: crap
|
Way, way, way, way too expensive (all of them!)
|
Had the best time in a long time, great staff both on the floor and the bar, allthough it was a really busy thursday night. Excellent choises of drinks and reallynice food!! Definetly a place I will return to a lot of times.

I went here on Sunday - staff slow, food not that great and then when we went to pay our waitress had disappeared! Today i find out that they have charged me TWICE for the same thing.

Went to this bar and sat outside. Bar staff reeeally slow, so we got up and brought drinks from bar, then the table staff moaned at for for serving ourselves...doh!! Nice Pimms cocktails though

I agree with Ronnie. It was the very first bar I went into, first time in London. So we thought those trays were common place in EVERY bar. I felt like a complete bumpkin/hillbilly because my friend left a pound tip on one of those pesky trays! "Take it back!" I hissed. "It's not a tip tray!" but he wouldn't. So someone else took the money and it wasn't the bar staff...
Sue - 20 Jan 2004 17:07 |
Too busy as couldn't get served and no space to stand and talk with mates, crap service, too expensive. And the bar staff give your change on those little bloody trays. Rubbish.
Ronnie Rosenthal - 9 Jan 2004 01:45 |
Not bad, although service has got pretty poor, especially now they've introduced tables outside

where all the posh snob wannabes go.. everything was just rah rah rah.. drink over priced and are cheaper down at tesco. staff were nice though?..
anonymous - 15 Nov 2003 14:26 |
Staff are friendly, But atmosphere is dark and dipressing. My experince with food was not good.Wines are expensive and many wines are cheaply avilable in local market
Merina - 18 Oct 2003 14:00 |
good posh pub. Nice food, good wine selection, prices right.
Russ - 13 Oct 2003 00:01 |
great warm up to a long saturday night, busy hussle and bussle, good staff, good atmosphere, good crowd
catherine - 28 Sep 2003 01:36 |
Typical All-bar-one really. As bland and inoffensive as the rest.
