The Salisbury, Harringay

I have lived near the Salisbury for 3 years now, and it is a great pub to have as a local. The decor of the vast interior is gloriously OTT - faded grandeur with huge windows, old church pews, black/white chessboard floor, mosaics, marble statues and a variety of stuffed animals.

Primarily a Fullers pub, they always have London Pride, Discovery, Chiswick and ESB on. Recently, also Honey Dew. Czech lagers - Litovel Classic and Premium, Leffe on tap, plus Paulaner Weissbier. In addition to this, a selection of bottles.

Food used to be good but gastro; now is upscale pub-grub, but very nicely done, with fat chips and burgers that you won't be able to fit in your mouth. There's an open kitchen in the chessboard-floor room.

Live music is also a forte - in recent years have seen some fantastic jazz/soul/funk bands here, and the jukebox has an interestingly quirky selection of tunes. It's open late at the weekends. Quiz night on Monday is also good (one day we'll win!)

Don't agree with the previous reviewer about the area - Green Lanes is well worth a visit for its Turkish/Greek culture and fantastic Meze/Baklava/Kebabs - but agree that the staff here could be a bit friendlier for the most part. Worth a visit.
