The Roebuck Inn, Wickham

I was in for lunch the day BOBSHOLL was in and we were sitting behind him. What a nasty, vile little portly bearded man he was too. I said to my wife I bet he's going to moan, and he did, And we just knew he'd be the sort to post something nasty on here. The truth of the matter is, and something he "forgot" to mention is his battered cod was absolutely fine. We watched him eat more than half of it and because it was such a large portion - something else he forgot to mention - he decided he'd have a moan. His poor wife is clearly used to his behaviour as she was obviously embarrassed and the waiter couldn't do enough for him and told him he'd taken the fish off the bill and offered him another dish at no extra charge when he was quite within his rights to have insisted he pay and was politeness itself and this is how that horrible man repays the actions of a polite and courteous waiter. I think it's appalling. Anybody reading this, please take no notice of this man. The Roebuck is my favourite place to eat. Yes it's not cheap, but the portions are HUGE. And do we really consider 10.50 expensive? Try them and see how much you get for your money.

The Roebuck Inn, Wickham

Isnt it funny how most of the comments for various pubs and restaurants on this site are of the negative? We, as British people, LOVE to complain, and WILL take the trouble to write a bad review, but it isnt very often we take the trouble to praise, or write a GOOD one. I guess I understand why: weve all had what we consider a bad experience and it makes us angry, so we think about what we can do to get our own back. It makes us feel better, but it doesnt necessarily make a review accurate for EVERYBODY. If we have a good time we simply smile, go home and do nothing more.
I recently visited The Roebuck with my fiance and, initially, we just wanted a drink. The Landlord was welcoming and polite and went out of his way to find us a nice cosy table. In the end we decided to eat as the food going out looked so good, and we NOT disappointed. The night we were there there were lots of people just drinking, but in an area separate to the dining room so I would describe The Roebuck as both a restaurant AND a pub. The food was amazing and I dont think either the food or the drinks were particularly expensive. There must have been 50 people there last Friday and they all seemed to leave happy, so that must say something.........
I guess what I am trying to say is, read these reviews, but they are only a record of personal preference. I tried Greens, the other restaurant mentioned, and didnt like it, but thats not to say others wouldnt. Sometimes personalities can clash, but my Mother once told me to always treat people as you would like to be treated yourself and you wont go far wrong and that applies to EVERYBODY.
The Roebuck is a real gem and my fiance and I are taking both our families there to try their Sunday roast. Were really looking forward to it and who knows, we might even choose it as our wedding venue.
