Excellent all-round boozer. Verulam brewery IPA particularly fine (you WILL have to enjoy the taste of hops).
Good food, seems to be available throughout opening hours.

The White Hart Tap, St Albans

Good pub, beer generally high quality. Sat night bands nearly always worth dropping in for. Joint landlords have pulled this pub out of the mire it previously occupied for years. "Offensive tongued landlord" (see earlier comment) does not always confine his disagreeable moods to ten minutes after closing. However, rumour suggests he's off soon, so won't mark it down.

The White Lion, St Albans

Excellent old pub, poorly run in recent years, now back on the paths of righteousness under new (6 months) landlord. Varied range of fine ales well kept.
Food above yer average pubgrub. No SAT TV.
Good sized garden but can feel like a creche at peak hours for ankle-biters.
