The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

Superfuzz claims to have met my Brother. I can confirm that this is indeed true. They were having a chat over a beer in the royal standard while i was round his gaff taking his wife up the council..

The Royal Standard of England, Beaconsfield

My Brother and i took our families for sunday lunch. He'd told me about th e pub and it was a really nice place.I could easily imagine me sitting quite happily by the fire on a cold, wet winters day having a beer or two. A least that was until we made the mistake of ordering food.Awful.We gave two seperate orders for the same table, and this seemed to confuse the waiting staff beyond belief. Even after they checked with us that this was correct, they still werent able to come to the fairly simple and obvious conclusion that we would have liked it if all our meals had arrived together. As me and my lot were finishing our meals, my brother and his family were just getting thiers. And the food was dire. My fish and chips was greasy beyond belief. The "homemade chips" were obviously the dreggs of several deep fat fryer loads cooked prior to mine, and the half of lemon had to be stood on to get any juice out of it.And they charged me 12 for it.Jesus Christ almighty. After waiting alomost 90 minutes for his food, the waiting staff kept pearing round to see how quickly he and his family were eating as it was only 10 minutes until the 2.30pm sitting was about to arrive. The child in me toyed with the idea of asking for the menu's again soi that we could order a dessert, but i doubt that the waiting staff would have seen the funny side. And my brother, who is an ex-heavyweight boxer would not doubt also have failed to have been amused if we'd have been told that there was no time to order one of their over priced, sub standard puddings - if the main courses were anything to go by. Like previous reviewers that whinge about Bisto gravy, and the other idiot that goes on about letting the atmosphere of the place enveloping and infecting you, and is obviously related to the landlord - i'm a simple soul. I'm not one of the inter-bread, Barber jacket wearing, Audi driving locals. All i ask is that i get what vaguely resembles value for money. My 11 year old cooked her Nan a birthday dinner the previous evening, from resipe cards she got from Sainsbury's. If the food we got served that that day contributed towards the RSoE being awarded pub of the year 2009 - my daughter as head chef would land them a Michelin star..

The Crown Colham Green, Hillingdon

Have lived in the area all my life and always thought the pub was ok. Took my two you kids on bank holiday monday afternoon for a quite drink and something to eat.Thought they might like it here because of the animals i know they keep in the beer garden. While sitting outside i noticed a very unhappy looking face appear from one of the upstairs windows, and within minutes the barmaid appeared to tell me that cidren aren't welcome. I suggested that they weren't hurting anybody, and that i doubted that the old guy perched at the bar and te elderley couple in the garden (the only other customers there) surely wouldn't mind.I was told i could either drink up and go, or she'd give me a refund. She was really poker faced, and made me feel very unwelcome. Apparantly the pub is now "Spanish style", with a Spanish stle grden, and serves Tapas etc. They've even decided to sell San Miguel (at a stupidy high price) to try and get that Spanish feel. However, if the landlord had spent as much time in Spain as i have during my life he would know that children are a big part of Spanish culture. Bars, retaurants and even little out of the way eating places are full of them. So treating paying customers with kids like leppers isn't doing much for his Spanish theme at all. And tuning away customer that was likely to spend about 40 on food and drink for himself and his 3 well behaved kids when his pub was basically empty doesn't show much business awareness either. Twonk.
