The Still and West, Portsmouth

Sitting in the garden here (or inside the lovely pub itself reading all about its history) watching the boats going in and out of the harbour is one of the most unmissable things in Portsmouth. I went a couple of weeks ago and there was a great summertime buzz - I counted that the Spinnaker Tower changes into at least 6 different colours! Since the demise of Gales though, the beer is less than fabulous but definitely still drinkable. The fish and chips in newspaper are still top notch!

The Dolphin, Portsmouth

Very cosy with lots of tables in historic Old Portsmouth. A great selection of real ales including an always well-kept Timothy Taylor Landlord. Open fire in winter. Small courtyard garden at the back. Small screens show some sporting events.

The Wine Vaults, Southsea

Definitely one of the liveliest places in Southsea on a Friday or Saturday night with a great atmosphere. The beer selection seems to be narrowing since the Fullers takeover - I used to go there for a nice pint of Summer Lightning. The nachos remain a generous-sized favourite on their bar menu.
