Profile information

I ended up living in South Norwood during 1987-89 when I ran out of money on my OE.Was the only Kiwi in the area for miles. Had the time of my life! Spent many a night with my new mates pub hopping between what was known then as the Cherry Trees(Station Rd),Jolly Sailor(High St),Port Manor(Portland St),Queens Arms (cnr Clifford/Portland),Prince of Denmark,(Denmark Rd), Duke of Clarence (Portland Rd), and of course the Spread Eagle (Portland Rd). A few are apparently still in tact, though the name may have changed somewhat, but the best have gone along with the patrons and staff that were the glue that kept it together. I hung with the Spread Eagle owners daughter, 24yrold Natalie who had a 4yrold daughter. Used to stay over after a late one on more than one occasion. Had a love/hate relationship with the grungy dirty area that it was, as the people all looked out for me and I had a blast.

Oceans Apart, Norwood

Knew this as The Prince of Denmark - had the best Irish band going and a really good sound system for its time - it was the late 80's afterall!! Awesome steak sandwhiches for lunch, too,!

The Jolly Sailor, South Norwood

when I lived in Sth Norwood back in the late 80's I used to meet my mate Lee here with his business cronies - all suits back then. Dark and pokey and very smokey! I miss these days ...

The Gold Coast Bar and Restaurant, South Norwood

I used to know this as the Spread Eagle, when Natalies family owned it, back in the 80's. Nat and I hung out a fair bit - i was the only backpacker in the area back then, known by the publicans as 'Kiwi'.
