The Carew Arms, Crowcombe

We arrived at the Carew following a hard morning walk at ten past two and asked if food was still being served. We were told that the food finished at two, so got a straight 'no' - without reference to the chef, who was behind the bar - so we had to settle for a packet of crisps. Oh dear, surely it wouldn't have taken much to knock up a cheese and tomato sandwich? It wasn't like there was a rush of people or anything and we would have walked away happier, and the pub (slightly) richer. Anyway, we had a drink and ate our crisps in a nice sunny spot, both thinking that the place could do so much better. There's an old world charm about the place, but the staff look like they've been sucking on lemons.
