Having worked on managemt for a major UK brewer all my life, malting, technical services and quality control I always congratulate the licensee when the beer is good but will never accept poor quality. It helps their trade for someone to tell them when the beer is off - athough they should never 'offer' you 'off' beer.
Some pubs try and sell too many draught beers which increases the time taken to empty a barrel and theyby reduces the qualaity if on sale more than 24 - 36 hours.
At one time I wrote the cellare insgtruction card and trained licensees.

The Red Lion, Barton under Needwood

Because there is always a good few of customers drinking the local Predigree it has a good throughput and is threfore always a good pint. When this is the case guest beers are not needed. Pleasant staff and landord. Shame it is not big enough to do catering.

The Anchor, Knaphill

I first dropped in for a pint about 3 years ago when visiting family in the are, the beer was excellent.
I went in again on 15th April 2007 and what a change.
I asked for a pint of the best beer in the house, there were 3 draught beers. I was presented with a pint with a very loose head, as I got it towards my mouth the smell was enough to put me off. It would have ruined my stomach for several days had I drank it. It was also warm so none had been served for some time. I looked at the guy behind the bar and without me saying anything he said I'll change it! Maybe my expression was enough! The replacement was just a little better, cooler, clear, lacking in condition and no way would you buy another one - or ever go back into the pub. You could not hear yourself speak as the music was so load, no wonder there were just a few youngsters there, trade looked very bad.
