The Bluebell, Henley In Arden

The place has had a bit of a gastropub facelift, but it is still bringing in the locals, and has a very cosy feel - the log fire was blazing away in the corner and we were made to feel very welcome.

Along with the usual lagers I noticed that they had Leffe and Hoegaarden on draught. The Timothy Taylor, Black Sheep and Hook Norton were all well kept (I felt compelled to try each of them), and although I didnt get stuck into the wine they looked to have a neat selection at reasonable prices the wife was pleased to see what she considered a decent champagne by the glass at 4.50.

Food was very good, although not cheap and with a bit of a retro feel prawn cocktail, Swiss cheese fondue, frogs legs and sherry trifle all made an appearance we couldnt fault the quality or the presentation.

Weve been back a couple of times since and the quality has been consistently good.

The Butchers Arms, Priors Hardwick

Consistently good quality food, although prices not for the faint hearted. Lino (the owner) is something of a celebrity and made us feel quite welcome.

Menu looks as if it has not changed since they opened in the 1970s steak diane, chateaubriand, steak tournedos.

Apart from bottled Superbock the beer was nothing to write home about, but then Im thinking that people dont go here for the beer

The Armouries Arms, Pathlow

This has changed hands midway through 2006, Leffe Blonde on draught and Liefmans Kriek Cherry Beer in the fridge was a good start, the ales seem to change quite regularly, Ive seen Hook Norton, Deuchars and local brewery Purity have all featured.

Food is great value for money, although some odd combinations crop up I seem to remember seeing a tomato salsa and swede on the same plate!

Service is very smiley and they are open for food on a Sunday afternoon / early evening.
