Town Green Inn, Aughton

Great food as long as they are not too busy, otherwise they cannot handle it. The food is above average for pub food.

Scarisbrick Arms, Downholland

We (four of us) made our first visit to the Scarisbrick arms on Sunday 9/5/10 since it re-opened. Wow what a transformation! While retaining it's unique character it has been brought up to date with a bang. It seems more open and airy and the food was fantastic! Home made chips to die for and the staff were brilliant. My mushroom stroganoff was delicious and we all agreed the meals were excellent and the sweets were generous but all for 2.95!
We will definately return.

The Running Horses, Lydiate

Don't go to the Running Horses if you are expecting a good meal! They advertise 'home made chips and seasonal veg with every main meal'. The chips were of the 'oven chip' variety and the veg was non existent. The steak was supposed to be 8oz rump but it was hammered to 1cm thick and as it only measured 6" by 3" heaven knows how big it was before the hammering! Certainly not 8oz! The 'vine tomatoes' consisted of half an ordinery cooked tomato and the onion rings were of the frozen kind.
My partner had fish, supposed to be freshly battered but looked as if it had been dipped in egg and shallow fried - also I have never seen a smaller piece of fish.
Altogether a most disappointing meal for a new pub hoping to make a name for itself. When I complained about the chips I was told the Chef was exhausted peeling potatoes!
