The John Baird, Muswell Hill

Some of the eulogies about the beer are rather over the top. I've frequently had a bad pint in here, and I stopped going for a while when it became a very regular occurence. The last straw was when the onwer once served me a totally flat dead pint, presuming I wouldn't notice. I didn't until I got back to the table, as I was a tad pissed. That was a wake up call. On the plus side, the Thai food is consistently excellent. And so are the staff who are always unfailingly very nice.

Brigantes Bar and Brasserie, York

The beer is great and the staff are very nice. However as for the food...I have had the burgers here a couple of times and was quite shocked at how tiny they were - child size. I wouldn't mind it there had been a warning on the menu - e.g. if it had said "fun-size burger". However the price certainly wasn't fun-size. I think someone should show the owners a copy of the trade descriptions act. Like I say, great beer and staff, and I would have given it an '8' or a '9' if the food portion sizes were a little less...dishonest.

The Ackhorne, York

Great pub, the beer is never a let down, though I generally go for the Roosters Yankee.
