Area management?? The landlord owns the pub!

The Marine, Eastbourne

The last few comments must have been written by the owners of The Crown, The Windsor, The Vic, or any of the other sub-standard and empty placed that surround this great pub! Overpriced? Large glass of high-quality wine �4.20. How is that overpriced? No regulars? Not at 2.30pm perhaps, but come 7.00-10.00pm most evenings there is a very healthy regular crowd. Lousy lager? They all taste the same - how do you know? Have a proper pint of beer. Food over-priced? Maybe more than the burger-n-chips-in-a-basket that you get elswhere, but you pay for quality and freshness. Get real!

The Marine, Eastbourne

By far and away the best pub in Eastbourne. Friendly staff/management, excellent and plentiful food. A full range of ales and lagers. The wine list is phenomenal, and caters for all tastes and pockets. Phil (the landlord) is both passionate and knowledgable about his wares - wines, beers, and especially whiskies & brandies. So much so that he will occasionally let you try a little first before you buy. Smokers are well catered-for. The best thing, though, is that no idiots are encouraged or allowed. Although the clientele is very varied in both age and background, there are no pool-tables, dart-boards, juke-boxes, or even TVs to destroy the convivial atmosphere. Like I said, the best pub in Eastbourne, and well worth a look for tourists and locals alike.
