The Saxon Bear Ale House, Christchurch

I still enjoy visiting this pub but I am not keen on the way this micropub is going. It has now installed 'Key Keg', I assume at some great expense to the owners. Unfortunately this now means that the 'key keg' beers are as much as £6.80 a pint and there is no CAMRA discount on these beers. I know they serve 1/3 , 1/2 and 2/3 on a pint but it still makes it a very expensive beer. It also reduces the range of normal ales on the list. They need to be careful that they don't price themselves out of the market by assuming every beer drinker in the area can afford 'key keg' prices.

The Winchester Gate, Salisbury

Another excellent beer festival held over the May bank holiday. Superb selection of beers from as far away as Scotland. I hear the landlord and landlady, Bill and Anne, are selling the pub. I hope the new landlord/lady keeps up the good work done so far. Bill and Anne have turned the Winchester Gate into a little beer haven in Salisbury and I hope that will continue.

The Winchester Gate, Salisbury

The pub had a beer festival over the weekend of 21st,22nd,23rd August. I have to say it had one of the best beer selections I have seen in a long time. Most beer festivals have the same tired beers but Bill ,the landlord, always comes up with a great and varied selection. Also some interesting ciders including a 'whisky-cask' cider.Excellent. A well run festival with cheery and knowledgeable people serving. Recommended .
