The Hobgoblin, High Wycombe

Popped back in for a quick pint on my way through town after not visiting for a few months and to say I was shocked would be an understatement! Dirty stained tables covered in used glasses lights hanging down from the ceiling and a chef in stained jeans and a tee shirt covered in food at the bar.
Not a sign of one of the many regulars that haunted this grand old place (I later found that most had moved on to friendlier parts)
The rev James was cloudy (it was like a glass of fog) and when i asked the bar maid "Karen" for an exchange the verbal abuse and foul language was just unbelievable.
after an extended argument I was allowed a pint of cider (did not wish to risk another ale) and moved to the beer garden to be met by a group of tattooed homeless looking urchins and the sounds of thrash metal at 3 in the afternoon .
gone are the varnished tables to be replaced by matt black paint covered in graffiti and the walls are now covered in stained mouldy posters advertising drum and bass nights and death metal bands .
Even the old cherry tree has been hacked to within an inch of its life or died in embarrassment.
Just before leaving I though I would chance the toilets? Oh another dire mistake, two urinals were pouring their contents over the already covered floor and a blocked toilet had emptied its contents as well. With the over powering stench I beat retreat
On the whole a pub that was starting to come back to life has been ruined again and one to avoid at all costs until it does! What happened to the landlord? Why go to the extent of putting all the effort into the real ales, cleaning the place up to then hand it over to such obnoxious woman
