Grey Horse, Reddish

This place has had its ups and downs but has now become quite a decent pub.

When it first opened after the Holts refurbishment I didn't like it; there were large screen TVs in every room showing football at a very high volume, and there was nowhere in the pub you could go to escape from it.

This has now been toned down and in the week the pub is a pleasant place for a quiet drink. The draught Holts is always on good form and value for money, and on top of this there are often special offers on various beers. Nice barmaids too.

At weekends there is usually some live entertainment, last night this was in the shape of a George Michael impersonator - not my cup of tea but very popular. On these nights the pub is usually packed. I'll stick to weekdays!

The Thatched Tavern, Reddish

Good pub in the back streets of Reddish, set on a corner amongst terraced houses, a bit like the Rovers Return. Cosy and very friendly.

Went in a few months ago and had a pint of Bombardier that was very off, so the barmaid exchanged it for a pint of another cask ale (can't remember which), but this too was off, so plumped for keg Boddingtons instead, which was in good condition!

I'm sure they have sorted these problems now because on a recent visit the Bombardier was excellent, it was the only cask ale available and the barmaid "pulled through" a couple of pints before serving mine. I shall be back!

The Admiral Lord Rodney, Colne

I love this pub! Very friendly bar staff, wide choice of well-kept beers. Good, old-fashioned pub decor that is slightly faded and shabby, just how it should be;. No fakery, pretension or sign of big-brewery money-grabbing. Always busy. Has that indefinable something which makes a pub special. Live music now and then, which really draws the crowds. Excellent.
